Management - Universities (Education & Training) Contract/Temp The Academic Dean serves as a liaison between students, faculty/staff members, senior leadership of the Institute, relevant boards and committees, and other stakeholders.
We have established this role for any individual who fits the following criteria:
Highly educated individual and skilled leader (holding PhD). Long-standing teaching and pastoral history within an institute of higher education at a senior leadership level. Experience developing relationships and engaging with industry to ensure course and graduate outcomes are aligned to standards and industry needs. Additionally, the Academic Dean will have a deep understanding of, and ability to interpret:
Corporations Act 2001 Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency Act 2011 Higher Education Standards Framework (Threshold Standards) 2021 Education Services for Overseas Students Act 2000 National Code of Practice for Providers of Education and Training to Overseas Students 2018 The Academic Dean reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer and indirectly to the charter of responsibilities set out for the academic department by the Institute's Corporate and Academic Boards.
As this role will be the most senior academic position of leadership within the Institute, this individual will also mentor and guide other academic staff.
The Academic Dean will play an integral role in academic leadership, mentoring and fostering good academic governance. In addition, the Academic Dean will:
Provide strategic, academic and operational leadership to the Institute. Work closely with colleagues and the senior leadership team to create and deliver a vision that engages staff, students and partners and meets the Institute's ambitions. Be a member of the Institute's Academic Board, and Chair of the Course Advisory Committee. Provide leadership in teaching scholarship and mentoring of staff development in the academic discipline of pedagogy. Lead the scholarly, pastoral, and educational activities of the academic department. Review faculty applications for senior teaching staff and make appropriate recommendations. Contribute to the Teaching and Learning plan, initiatives, and progress of the academic department within the Institute. Foster a supportive, collaborative, and inclusive workplace culture. Ensure equitable workload allocations that focus on performance, recognition, and reward for outstanding efforts. Manage the quality and currency of the Institute's courses. Ensure quality assurance and risk management of all academic activities, in line with the Institute's policies and systems. Skills & Experience - Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, manage and collaborate at a senior level.
- Demonstrated business acumen and significant experience in leading and building both domestic and international educational capability.
- Demonstrated ability to foster and maintain long-term relationships with a range of stakeholders (industry, government, and national/international communities).
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills including demonstrated cross-cultural sensitivity, the ability to facilitate and deal with conflict sensitively and constructively and use appropriate negotiation techniques to achieve desired outcomes.
- Demonstrated strategic management skills particularly strategic thinking, planning and implementation with the ability to achieve results.
- Evidence of clear understanding of the tertiary education sector in Australia and the international higher education context.
- Demonstrated commitment to applying relevant policies, procedures, and legislation in the day-to-day performance of the functions of this position.
