Data Scientist - Gaming Location: Oxford city centre, office based role requirement
Remuneration: £45,000 - £60,000 plus a massive bonus potential, pension, healthcare, life assurance, gym membership, even support with relocation if you need it.
(Please note - unfortunately we can't offer sponsorship with this appointment.)
Have you worked as something like a games analyst or a data scientist within the mobile gaming, free to play games, indie or AAA games industry before?
So would you know how to successfully set up and carry out an analysis project which gets under the skin of player behaviour and identifies things like the reasons for customer churn, or decision models which influence monetisation strategies and can translate these into actionable insights and recommendations.
You'll be joining an indie mobile gaming company who have a couple of smash hits under their belt, and are looking to add support to their data and insight function.
Reporting to the head of data science, and working across all titles within the company's portfolio, some of which include a number of smash hit football games.
The work will be varied, and because of the relatively small size of the company, means your work will include a variety of project types including:
Product analysis – looking at player behaviour in games. Identifying how changes and game updates are affecting player behaviour. Whether it's improving user experience, driving enhancements to monetisation, or answering business related questions which arise from time to time about the player base.Providing statistical analysis through the application of advanced analytics and data science techniques – looking at customer churn prevention strategies and prediction, pricing and reward strategies and mechanics. With a firm understanding of statistical significance.Commercial analysis and game analytics – deep diving into game performance and providing actionable insight around player and commercial objectives. Including recommendations based on those insights.Design and carry out testing through split run analysis experiments on the player base.Providing data visualisations to bring the narrative to life for stakeholders. There's also some data engineering work to be done, principally setting up data fields – and this is namely because it's a small business. So there's not a large resource team surrounding you. What you can expect from this opportunity is the chance to work on some really interesting projects, centred around something you likely will feel very personally passionate about. Because you personally love gaming and your work will be directly contributing towards improving the experience of all users, whilst optimising commercial benefits for the business too.
What you can expect from the company is: An environment which has a good work/life balance. They even have a 'no overtime' policy.A bonus scheme that's beyond belief… if you're expecting just 10% or even 20%, be prepared to be surprised!Because the bonus scheme is so strong, they're prepared to consider offering a sign-on bonus arrangement if you happen to be looking for a base salary that's a bit higher than their banding to offset. They can even offer you tickets to various football matches and a box seat at Wembley from time to time too! What they're looking for from you: You must have commercial experience in data science/game analytics from the gaming industry or something closely related – such as gambling, sports betting, sporting industries, etc.A real passion and interest in gaming and/or football – or football games principally.Good knowledge of Python and SQL coding, and confident with various data modelling and statistical techniques, including the importance of statistical significance.Good understanding of visualisation techniques, and have ideally worked with a visualisation tool such as Tableau, Qlik or PowerBI.Confident presenting skills.Natural curiosity around the mechanics behind the 'why' in data findings and analytics outputs.Comfortable in pacey environments like you'd expect like an indie gaming firm.Want to Apply? Here's how: You can share your Linkedin profile or email me a CV – it doesn't have to be up to date, we can work on that once you decide you want to take this forward.
