Due to the nature of clients we work with here at Kinexus and the projects these roles will be based on, an Australian Government Top Secret Positive Vetting (TSPV) clearance is essential.
These opportunities do not have the ability to obtain sponsorship for a security clearance (including applicants who currently hold a security clearance seeking to upgrade).
ABOUT THIS ROLE The Data Scientist will be responsible for working under limited direction as a member of a team responsible for developing advanced analytics, tools and techniques to exploit AGO's data holdings in support of business requirements.
The role will involve the design, coordination, development and integration of advanced analytic solutions.
The role will need extensive data analysis experience, the ability to architect and develop software/analytic solutions, and a proven ability to work within an integrated team of technical/non-technical personnel.
The program of work has multiple projects which range in size. The successful candidate may be required to work across one or more of these projects.
The Specified Person will be expected to demonstrate attributes of SFIA Level of Responsibility 5.
Current Top-Secret Positive Vetting (TSPV) security clearance is strongly preferred, however candidates who have held a TSPV in the previous 12-month period (which has since been downgraded) may be considered.

The Australia Geospatial-Intelligence Organisation (AGO) is the lead agency for geospatial data, information and intelligence for Defence and the National Intelligence Community. Situated in Canberra, AGO is a small organisation of TSPV cleared workers that is rapidly growing. Exciting projects such as DEF100 and DEF101 are managed by AGO.
AGO is seeking highly skilled and motivated personnel to apply their skills and knowledge to achieve AGO's strategic goals: to deliver geospatial intelligence; lead the Department of Defence geospatial domain; and position our organisation for the future. Long contracts (12 or 24 months) available.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Evaluates the need for analytics, assesses the problems to be solved and what internal or external data sources to use or acquire.Specifies and applies appropriate mathematical, statistical, predictive modelling or machine-learning techniques to analyse data, generate insights, create value and support decision-making. Manages reviews of the benefits and value of analytics techniques and tools and recommends improvements.Takes technical responsibility across all stages and iterations of software/analytic development. Plans and drives software/analytic construction activities. Adopts and adapts appropriate software/analytic development methods, tools and techniques.Contributes to and supports leadership efforts to improve data science processes and techniques.Contributes to the development of solution architectures in data analysis and exploitation. Identifies and evaluates alternative architectures and the trade-offs in cost, performance and scalability.Identify system interdependencies and liaise with other system stakeholders to resolve conflict and coordinate integrated solutions.Document technical processes and write documentation in accordance with relevant policies and procedures.Establish and foster productive working relationships by working cohesively and flexibly with the broader project team, key business partners and stakeholder groups. SKILLS & EXPERIENCE NEEDED Australian Citizenship and a TSPV security clearance is essential.Demonstrated knowledge in the application and integration of machine learning approaches (desirable).Demonstrated knowledge of geospatial analysis (desirable) BENEFITS
