Data Program Director Purpose of the role: The Data Program Director will lead the Data Engineering strategy and delivery across global projects and products. You will ensure the Data Engineering function works as one team, promote excellence and technical development, and adheres to key principles and processes. You will guide and are responsible for strategic decisions with the support of a team of Senior Leads. The Program Director is critical for ensuring the team is forward-thinking and remains at the forefront of the field.
Key Responsibilities: Ensure excellence in the end-to-end delivery of complex data engineering projects and programmes for our clients and internal products. Lead the team in the design of technology solutions that meet the business needs of our clients in terms of sustainability, scalability, performance and security and keep the design decisions in sync with our clients Architecture and Security functions at all times. Lead the design and development of database build, integration projects and change management across a diverse range of clients, industries and technologies. Overall responsibility for the management, mentorship and technical development of the Data Engineering team. Collaboration with clients and project delivery teams in the low-level design of data-oriented, ELT or ETL projects in response to client requirements. Responsibility for the implementation, dissemination and adherence of our Data Engineering methodologies, processes & principles. Responsibility for providing an accurate estimation process for projects and change activity in line with profitability targets. The Data Engineering team is a profit centre and the principal is responsible for ensuring high profitability and utilisation. Role will be client facing and will articulate technology deliverables in both technical and plain English language. There will be participation in key project calls, MSRs, QBRs where required. Work with the delivery team to ensure a robust process exists that seamlessly moves large projects and change requests from definition to delivery to onboarding to BAU. Lead and support strategic initiatives impacting the Data Engineering team such as Continuous Integration methodologies. Key Experience, Skills and Knowledge: Demonstrable 20+ years of Data experience in delivering large programs and migration with 3+ years of data delivery experience. Experienced for more than 5 years in delivering AWS Data services. AWS Data Engineering certification is essential. Proven ability to quickly adapt to new technologies, concepts, and approaches. Highly professional individual with excellent written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrable experience in ETL/ELT processes. Background in database development utilising Oracle DB Server, Big Data/Hadoop, Teradata, Snowflake, Cloudera or equivalent technologies. Experience in the delivery of more than one of the following are essential: Enterprise level Business to Consumer database (Oracle Server, Postgres, MySQL, NoSQL, In-memory). Cloud-based deliveries within AWS, exposure to Azure, GCP or private clouds. Migration of legacy hosted solutions into a Cloud environment. Mid to Enterprise level Digital Transformation programmes. Implementation of an enterprise level Data Management Platform. Programmes involved in processing and transformation of 'Big Data.' Ability to translate a set of highly complex technology deliverables into business benefit. Awareness of high-standard documentation across the delivery cycle and the ability to hold multiple functions accountable for its creation. Outstanding and confident verbal and written communicator. An understanding of Cloud Technologies and their application and benefits e.g. AWS, Azure, Oracle or Google – Desirable.
