What are we looking for?
We are now on the lookout for a Data Governance Lead to join our Melbourne office for a fixed term full time 12 month contract (with potential to be extended). We offer flexible work arrangements and hybrid working between home and office. However, from time-to-time attendance at office will be required.
If successful, you will be playing a hands-on role responsible for leading the development and implementation of data governance strategies and frameworks. You will have a strong background in data governance, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to work collaboratively across departments.
Key responsibilities in the following areas will include:
Deliver on the Data Governance Program of work:

Regularly review action items outlined in the data governance roadmap.
Ensure that items are delivered on time and to the highest levels of quality.
Send regular progress updates to key stakeholders.

Defining Data Governance Policies and Procedures:

Responsible for implementing data governance policies, standards, and procedures.
Conduct a schedule for regular data audits and monitoring.
Enforce compliance with these policies and procedures.

Managing Data Ownership:

Collaborate with data stewards, data owners, and other stakeholders to define data governance goals and objectives.
Build trust in data assets through continuous improvement of data governance metrics.
Ensure that there are regular reviews of data owners, stewards and custodians across the firm.
Create and maintain a comprehensive data catalogue that can be utilised by stakeholders to search for data points.

Data Governance Stakeholder Management:

Triage new requests coming in and create a prioritisation framework. Share and communicate priorities for the Data Governance team.
Provide training and support to staff across the firm on data governance best practices.
Foster a data savvy culture with regular uplift initiatives to grow awareness across the data lifecycle.

Vendor Management:

Complete market scans to identify key tools and technologies required.
Conduct regular evaluations of solutions provider performance and provide feedback to ensure that this meets the firm's data governance requirements.
Collaboration with internal teams and other areas of the Data & Analytics area to ensure that a holistic set of requirements are gathered with regards to data governance and data security initiatives.

Leading the Data Governance Team:

Responsible for leading a team (both internal team members and sometimes external resources) providing operational BI and reporting, along with monitoring and data quality.
Leadership skills, effective communication, and the ability to guide team members are crucial.
It is imperative to ensure that the team spends an adequate proportion of their time on prioritised tasks and are balancing BAU and strategic tasks accordingly.
Preparing weekly and monthly progress updates on key initiatives would be a requirement.

What will you bring?
Key to your success in this role, it is essential you have the following qualifications, skills and capabilities:

Data & Analytics qualification.
Previous experience with Data Quality tools and technologies.
Data Governance tools (e.g. Collibra, Microsoft Purview, etc.).
Knowledge of regulatory requirements related to data governance (e.g., GDPR, CCPA).
Ability to build rapport with key stakeholders and influencing skills.
Strong time management skills.
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Superior organisational skills.
A team player.

It would also be great, if you had the following qualifications and/or experience across the following:

Information Management, Computer Science or Business Analytics degree.
System experience: Python/PowerAutomate/Azure/Fabric/T-SQL/SSRS/SSIS/PowerBI/Tableau.
AI for data governance.
Project Management methodologies (e.g. Agile/Waterfall).
