Purpose/Function of Team:The Data Engineer role is part of the Customer Analytics and Insights team within our Corporate & Customer Services (CCS) division. The CCS division supports common operations and customer services for Westpac Group, using customer insights, data, and technology to design and deliver exceptional customer experiences at scale. As a Data Engineer, you will contribute to this vision by enabling CCS to provide trusted customer analysis, actionable insights, and advice.
Responsibilities of the Position:As a Data Engineer, you will be responsible for driving and enhancing the way we use customer data. You will work with various stakeholders to ensure that data is sourced, enriched, and leveraged effectively to support customer, business, and risk decision-making. In collaboration with data scientists and analysts, you will implement complex data projects focused on collecting, parsing, and managing large datasets from multiple sources. The role is key to solving business problems through the sourcing, transforming, and analysis of data, resulting in actionable insights and value creation.
Key Responsibilities Include:
Data Analysis
Scope and design data analytics approaches/project plans to achieve desired results.
Use data platforms to conduct complex database queries and review additional data sources to identify trends and predict patterns relevant to business problems.
Promote innovative approaches by staying updated on industry developments.
Information Design & Insight Delivery
Conduct custom insight studies to provide actionable insights aligned with the initiative's objectives.
Create and deliver clear and concise presentations for stakeholders, showcasing analysis and recommendations.
Contribute to knowledge management tools (e.g., Confluence, BitBucket) and share insights through documentation, code, and knowledge showcases.
Trusted Adviser/Key Influencer
Communicate and present technical analysis and data insights to non-technical audiences.
Work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
Apply strong negotiation and influencing skills to drive discussions and achieve effective outcomes.
Lead stakeholder discussions to accurately define problems with clarity and precision.
Build productive working relationships with business and strategic partners.
Drive Performance
Actively collaborate with colleagues to ensure delivery excellence.
Take ownership of problems and identify solutions.
Display a growth mindset by proactively seeking feedback and incorporating peer reviews for quality assurance.
Skills Required/Desired for the Role:
Tertiary education in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) disciplines.
Working or conceptual knowledge of building and maintaining physical/logical data models.
Strong understanding of database structure and design principles.
Excellent proficiency in translating and analysing data.
Strong stakeholder management skills, including presentation abilities.
Experience working with complex datasets for building data pipelines to deliver insights and analytics.
Programming skills: SQL, Python.
Familiarity with Business Intelligence tools: Power BI, Power Apps, Tableau (desirable).
