The Data Engineer will sit within the Chief Data Office (CDO) team which is responsible for ensuring that Comcare takes a mature and sophisticated approach to the management and use of data and works across Comcare to:
Improve enterprise data governance.Foster a data-driven organisational culture.Deliver better insights through new platforms and capability uplift.Ensure data architecture and data models cater for versatile reporting and analytics needs.Delineate impacts within our data environment to facilitate a better understanding and implementation of effective controls.Create a framework that helps people understand their responsibilities when it comes to data.Embed continuous improvement in process and quality of data captures.Ensure consistency in the description of common data terms.Ensure data is leveraged effectively to solve business problems.Enable data capability gaps to be identified and addressed across Comcare so that Groups can be more self-sufficient in working with data.The key duties of the position include:The Data Engineer plays a key role in the operationalisation of the data platform to business areas.
The Data Engineer will work closely with ICT Engineers, data modellers, data analysts and business areas to develop reusable data patterns in a cloud-based Microsoft Azure environment, for use in reporting, analysis and data science.
To be successful in this role, the Data Engineer will be required to communicate effectively between technical and non-technical stakeholders, integrate different types of data across various subject areas, and design, build and test data products including business semantic layers and data and analytics pipelines which integrate data governance and quality assurance practices.
This role contributes to Comcare's priorities and will inform evidence-based decision-making by facilitating data-driven change.
This includes supporting on high priority enterprise-wide programs of work including design and integration of new solutions, and other activities which contribute to organisational data maturity uplift.
Primary Responsibilities:Contribute to Comcare's purpose, Corporate Plan and Program Delivery model.Support the implementation of the data and analytics strategy.Support the operationalisation of a core data platform, including through the development of semantic layers and data and analytics pipelines.Develop and maintain documentation to support data engineering capability uplift.Provide data subject-matter expertise to the organisation.Support and promote data governance initiatives including data quality uplift.Establish and maintain strong stakeholder relationships with both internal and external parties.Design and contribute to innovative solutions and identify and implement opportunities for continuous improvement in the data environment.Mandatory Qualifications:Recent and relevant experience (2 years +) in a data engineering role.Desirable Qualifications:Experience working within an Azure cloud data environment.Experience developing data pipelines for data visualisation / analysis tools such as Microsoft Power BI.Additional Requirements:Character clearance (Australian Criminal History Check).Employee Health Declaration.Six months probationary period for new engagements.Ability to obtain and maintain a Baseline Security Clearance.RecruitAbility applies to this vacancy.
