About the Role We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Data Center Technician (Metro Tech) to support and maintain data center operations in Sydney, Australia. This role involves providing technical, operational, and administrative support for a leading technology company's data center operations. The ideal candidate will have strong technical expertise, a proactive mindset, and the ability to work autonomously on high-priority projects.
Key Responsibilities Support data center operations, including IT systems, network services, and critical infrastructure.
Perform technical, operational, and administrative tasks, including colocation, connectivity, and server hardware support.
Install and deploy IT and network hardware, including stacking and racking servers and verifying cable paths.
Conduct data center hardware, inventory, and circuit audits.
Plan and execute network deployments.
Handle infrastructure maintenance, break-fix work, and capacity/power audits.
Process incoming shipments and manage storage areas.
Maintain cleanliness and organization of equipment racks and data center spaces.
Respond to on-site issues within required timeframes (1-2 hours depending on priority).
Skills and Qualifications Mandatory:
Minimum 3–4 years of remote hands/data center operations experience.
Proficiency in cable management and basic computer troubleshooting (A+ and N+ certifications preferred).
Strong understanding of Linux, Cisco, Juniper, Arista, Infinera, and Ciena hardware and operating systems.
Familiarity with DCIM tools (e.g., Netbox) and ticketing systems (e.g., JIRA).
Ability to work independently and lead projects with minimal supervision.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, especially with documentation.
Capability to lift up to 25kg and perform physical tasks as required.
Preferred:
ITIL and CCNA certifications.
Experience planning and executing network deployments.
Access to a vehicle and valid driver's license (preferred but not essential).
Exceptional communication and multitasking skills.
Work Hours and Flexibility Full-time position (40 hours/week).
Must be available for off-peak maintenance work (11:00 PM–7:00 AM) with rest periods during the following day as needed.
Flexibility to support urgent issues or projects outside of standard business hours (with advanced notice).
