This role has a hybrid working model that requires staff to attend the office a minimum of 2 days per week, with the other 3 days working from home. Noting operational requirements may require staff to attend the office more often.
Key responsibilities:
Develop and maintain an overarching modern data architecture strategy that aligns with departmental goals and objectives.
Collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements and translate business needs into data architecture solutions.
Design and implement data models, schemas and databases to support data storage, retrieval and analysis.
Define standards, policies and procedures to ensure data quality, security and compliance with whole-of-government requirements.
Evaluate and select appropriate technology platforms and tools for data management, integration and analytics.
Work with the agency's Data Governance function on governance issues including data classification, access control and privacy management.
Provide guidance and support to project teams on data architecture best practices and methodologies.
Conduct performance tuning and optimization of data infrastructure to enhance scalability, reliability and efficiency.
Collaborate with the agency's enterprise architects, information architect, security architect, data engineers and other ICT staff to integrate data architecture with the agency's overall IT infrastructure.
Stay abreast of emerging technologies, trends and standards in data management and recommend innovations to enhance data architecture capabilities.
Qualifications, skills and experience:
Proven experience as a data architect.
Strong abilities with data modelling tools and techniques, including industry standard notation approaches.
Strong understanding of relational and non-relational databases, data warehousing and big data technologies.
Strong understanding of modern data architecture approaches, including Lambda and kappa data architecture layers, batch layers, data mesh and data fabric, data storage types, database types and performance constraints, data ingestion types, landing zone approaches, data processing types (batch vs streaming), data serving technologies, observability, orchestration, scheduling, etc.
In-depth knowledge of data architecture principles, methodologies and best practices.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
Project management experience and the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Bachelors or master's degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field.
Familiarity with Australian government whole-of-government requirements.
Excellent oral and written communications skills.
Excellent stakeholder management skills (across all levels of the organisation).
High attention to detail, aptitude to manage and prioritise tasks.
