The Australian Taxation Office (ATO) Payday Super represents a transformative opportunity to modernize the Super Guarantee (SG) system, addressing the estimated $5.1 billion in unpaid SG annually and improving retirement incomes for millions of Australians. It introduces a core requirement for employers to make super contributions to funds within seven calendar days of payday, significantly accelerating current processes.
The implementation of Payday Super involves extensive collaboration across the SG ecosystem, including employers, digital service providers, gateways, clearing houses, super funds, and the ATO. Preparations include adapting systems, workflows, and compliance practices to meet the faster pace required by the new system. Legislative changes are being developed by Treasury, while the ATO and industry stakeholders work proactively to align with upcoming requirements.
Key to this transition is the ATO's enhanced capability to match Single Touch Payroll data with super contribution reports. This allows for proactive compliance monitoring and faster intervention when employers fail to meet obligations, ensuring more timely contributions for workers. Payday Super will drive significant operational and cultural shifts within the superannuation industry, requiring readiness for faster data processing and regulatory responses.
The ATO is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Project Manager to drive the successful delivery of projects supporting the Payday Super initiative. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to a landmark reform aimed at modernizing the Super Guarantee (SG) system, ensuring timely and accurate super contributions for millions of Australians. As Project Manager, you will coordinate diverse teams, manage project timelines, and ensure that all stakeholders are aligned with program goals. You will play a critical role in preparing the SG ecosystem—including employers, super funds, digital service providers, and the ATO—for the faster pace required under Payday Super.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and manage detailed project plans, schedules, and budgets to ensure successful delivery of Payday Super projects. Define project scope, objectives, and deliverables in alignment with program goals. Work closely with internal and external stakeholders, including government agencies, employers, and industry representatives, to ensure alignment and collaboration. Facilitate regular communication to provide updates, address concerns, and ensure stakeholder engagement. Identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies to ensure project success. Monitor progress against key milestones and address issues as they arise. Support stakeholders in understanding and implementing legislative and regulatory changes required for Payday Super. Ensure all project deliverables adhere to compliance standards and legislative requirements. Track project performance and provide regular reports to the Program Manager and leadership team. Maintain comprehensive project documentation, including risk logs, action plans, and status reports. Skills and Experience:
Proven experience in project management, preferably within large-scale regulatory, financial, or technology initiatives. Strong understanding of superannuation systems, compliance requirements, and legislative processes. Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and competing priorities. Effective communication and stakeholder management skills. Proficiency in project management tools and methodologies (e.g., MS Project, Agile, PRINCE2). Experience working with Single Touch Payroll systems or in the superannuation industry. Familiarity with government or public-sector project environments. Certification in project management (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2, Agile). HOW TO APPLY
Please follow the application process carefully. You will receive emails from us with links to complete two web forms. Additionally, we will need your most recent CV, updated to highlight your suitability for this role.
