Undertake activities relating to digitisation and documentation of the collection. Perform collection management activities including cataloguing to a high standard and maintaining information across various databases. Help manage workflows related to the department's busy schedule of programs. Organise and workflow enquiries from external parties about the collection. Assist with the development of collection displays and exhibitions, including preparation of interpretive material. Assist with the management of administrative activities including but not limited to preparation of Cultural Gifts paperwork and related correspondence.

WHAT YOU WILL GAIN FROM THE EXPERIENCE - OVERVIEW OF THE ROLEThe Australian Art Department is responsible for researching and delivering loan exhibitions, commissioning projects for the program, as well as researching, building, interpreting, and publishing on the National Gallery's collection and preparing collection presentations.
Our collection is among the most extensive and significant collections of Australian Art in the country, comprising some 85,000 works across nineteenth century, modern and contemporary painting, sculpture, and installation.
The National Gallery is seeking a Curatorial Assistant with experience and a keen interest in curatorial practices to join an enthusiastic team in a vibrant, rewarding environment. Reporting to the Senior Curator, Australian Art and Head Curator, Australian Art, this role is responsible for assisting with the coordination of the Australian Art department.
In addition to managing departmental administration relating to acquisition and deaccession activities, the role also involves contributing to curatorial collection display and exhibition projects, assisting Australian Art curators with the research, management, and administration of the Department's extensive collection presentations, exhibitions, and publications.
