MUMA is seeking a Curator, Indigenous Engagement to join our team of highly motivated museum and educational professionals.
The Curator, Indigenous Engagement will play a central role in the development and presentation of MUMA's artistic, collection and education programs with a focus on projects involving Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists and associated cultural practitioners.
Reporting to the Director and working closely with other Curators and MUMA staff, this role will contribute to MUMA's objective to promote wider and deeper public engagement with contemporary creative practices.
As the successful candidate, you will be responsible for researching and developing MUMA's artistic programs including with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists through co/curating exhibitions, and liaising with artists/writers/cognate academics.
Further, this role will co-develop and present MUMA's education programs tailoring them to specific audiences and relevant curricula, including developing innovative pedagogical approaches and contributing to MUMA's accessible educational resources for primary, secondary and tertiary students.
The Curator, Indigenous Engagement will also work in liaison with and will be supported by MUMA's Indigenous Reference Group, along with other relevant groups/committees across the University, to develop and implement cultural procedures, protocols and guidelines to support the development and delivery of MUMA's program.
This position is designated for an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person and requires high-level knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art and creative practices, as well as knowledge of artists, institutions, established networks, and contemporary art contexts nationally and internationally.
To facilitate further engagement with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and arts communities, the Curator, Indigenous Engagement will also have access to a dedicated travel and mentorship allowance.
You will also require excellent problem-solving and organisational skills, as well as being a great communicator, with the ability to engage effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders, participants, and audiences.
