Contract Full Time (4 years) Supportive Work/Life Balance Attractive salary package circa $163,000 (including superannuation and vehicle) Location – Rockhampton Your new role Rockhampton Botanic Gardens is a 155 year old heritage listed Botanic Garden of regional and state significance, with a diverse botanical collection and historic built assets. The Council is looking for a dedicated and experienced leader to oversee the operational management of Rockhampton's renowned gardens, ensuring the preservation and appreciation of their natural, cultural, and historical significance. In this key role, you will safeguard the gardens' local flora, fauna, and cultural heritage, while developing conservation plans to support their ongoing protection and preservation.
Your experience managing a team will allow you to successfully lead the horticultural and landscape management for the gardens ensuring outcomes, targets and regulatory responsibilities are met with optimum efficiency and effectiveness.
This position requires the completion of a satisfactory Criminal History Check - Police Certificate (Australia Wide Name Only Police Check).

Application Criteria Degree qualification in Horticulture, Open Space Management (or related discipline) and/or extensive industry experience in the management of horticultural operations in a large public park or garden. Proven ability to make decisions, co-ordinate resources and experience leading diverse and multidisciplinary teams. Comprehensive knowledge of amenity horticulture, including collection management, sustainable horticulture, park management, risk management and bio-diversity principles. Knowledge of public policy issues which affect botanic gardens, particularly in the areas of conservation of heritage, biodiversity and sustainability in the horticulture industry. Highly developed interpersonal skills and experience producing logical and professionally written reports of a comprehensive and complex nature.
