Cultural Liaison Officer , Youth Justice

As a Cultural Liaison Officer, you will specifically: • Maintain cultural standards of care in case management framework by providing cultural support for Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander young people during new inductions, caseworker and transition interviews, program referrals, behaviour development plans, special interest young people and review meetings.
• Support the development and implementation of a cultural practice policy within the accommodation unit.
• Improve the overall cultural competency goals within the operational stream through providing cultural advice and education through cultural knowledge training.
• Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and advocate on behalf of the cultural wellbeing of young people in detention.
• Provide cultural mentoring and coaching support for Young People in Detention and model appropriate cultural behaviours and expectations.
• Deliver regular group counselling sessions via the yarning circle model to support positive peer collective learning outcomes.
• Assist in the delivery of criminogenic programs to address recidivous behaviours and support the delivery of effective reintegration and transition pathways.
• Support the recruitment attraction and retention employment strategies for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
• Assist staff to implement effective cultural safety and inclusion practices and procedures.
• Uphold the safety and security requirements as it applies within a regulated environment.
