The South West Aboriginal Medical Service (SWAMS) is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service based in Bunbury which provides a variety of health services to Aboriginal people in the South West of Western Australia. SWAMS delivers a wide range of primary health and community programs and has a strong growth strategy through partnership opportunities and future community development.
We are currently seeking to recruit a Cultural Lead to be part of our Social and Emotional Wellbeing Team. The Cultural Lead will be responsible for providing cultural advice and guidance in the delivery of the Social and Emotional Wellbeing care to our SWAMS Clients.
If you are passionate about promoting Aboriginal culture and ensuring services to the community are delivered in a culturally safe manner, this is a great opportunity to create impact at SWAMS and the local community.
The Cultural Lead will also be required to provide leadership and guidance to our SWAMS Social and Emotional Wellbeing team and work collaboratively with other managers and stakeholders.
This role is varied with a lot of opportunity. Below is just a snapshot of what you will be involved in:
Provide cultural leadership in the workplace. Coordinate and manage the treatment of clients' mental, emotional, and behavioral symptoms as required. Provide feedback in relation to a client's attitude and behaviour. Provide mentoring, comfort, support, and advocacy for clients as required. Collaborate effectively with SWAMS remote and clinical services, member services, and other mental health service providers to enhance services, quality, and ensure continuous improvement and effective integrated primary health care and SEWB/mental health care. Support team members in the development of community development/prevention skills as required. Minimum Requirements:
Able to communicate sensitively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Demonstrated understanding of the inter-generational impacts of Stolen Generation policies. Knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture and ability to work with Aboriginal and culturally diverse people. High level of interpersonal and communication skills. Demonstrated high level of written and verbal communication skills, including report writing, facilitation, and data collection. Current driver's licence and ability to travel throughout the South West Region. Demonstrated knowledge of and engagement with local mental health and social support services in the South West. Knowledge and understanding of relevant legislative requirements. Experience in Community or Aboriginal Health.
