Manage cultural heritage through rehabilitation and closure planning and implementation Build enduring relationships between our asset and Traditional Owners Permanent position with a global organisation based in the Northern Territory About the role We are looking for a  Cultural Heritage Specialist  to lead the management of business impacts and risks related to cultural heritage across the Ranger Rehabilitation Project.
A key role within the Communities and Social Performance Team, the Cultural Heritage Specialist will support engagement between Traditional Owners and the business to understand and protect the cultural landscape and deliver on business objectives for rehabilitation and closure of the site.
This role is suited to an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual who is seeking an influential role within a leading organisation.
You will be passionate about cultural heritage management and stakeholder engagement, with the ability to show initiative and work autonomously.
Reporting to the Manager Communities & Social Performance, in a challenging and exciting work environment, you will: Provide technical expertise on cultural heritage management matters across site rehabilitation, studies and approvals and closure plans; Develop and advise on strategic approaches to strengthen Traditional owner relationships and manage risk; Implement the Ranger Rehabilitation Project cultural heritage management system, including site protection plans, coordination of surveys and Traditional Owner engagement; and Manage complex cultural heritage permits and GIS system.
What you will bring Archaeology, Anthropology Degree, Heritage Management, History or equivalent with mining experience Technical expertise in heritage management and the ability to lead and conduct fieldwork Broad background in working with heritage management in mining and resources, consulting and not for profit, Aboriginal Corporations, or contract management The ability to influence and manage stakeholder relationships   Cultural awareness and understanding Current C class drivers' licence Ability to build capabilities in others through training, awareness and task assignment with peers and community members Ability to ensure learning from an evolution of global good practice can be implemented at project level It will also be beneficial if you have: Experience working with Traditional Owners/Indigenous groups, in relationship management or community engagement capacity Demonstrated experience in leading teams in a workforce planning capacity, critical risk management and influencing key decisions Benefits Competitive salary package with an annual cash incentive award (STIP) 5 weeks annual leave plus an additional 6 days of recreational leave Generous allowances for working in a remote location Flexible working arrangements considered to suit your lifestyle Fantastic sporting and family friendly community with quick access to Darwin Immediate access to the Rio Tinto share programme Private health insurance contribution for all employees and immediate family members Career development & education assistance to further your ambitions Paid parental leave at 9 months (half pay) and 4.5 months full pay Applications close Monday, 27 January – midnight (Brisbane time) About Rio Tinto Rio Tinto is a leading global mining and materials company.
