MHHS, situated on Galiwin'ku (Elcho Island), is a mobile Yolngu Medical Service covering 15,000 square kilometres in the remote East Arnhem Land with a population between around 250.
There are 29 homelands in the Marthakal Homelands region, for which the medical service is on 24 hours emergency call.
Being a mobile medical service means that the health team travel in small planes and manual four-wheel drive vehicles to conduct clinics out on the homelands.
What medical equipment can't be packed can't be taken, so compact sturdy anti shock equipment is used.

Housing and utility package What's the role?
The Registered Nurse identifies the needs and provide evidence-based nursing care to people of all ages and cultural groups, including individuals, families and communities in homelands in an effective and timely manner with an expected health outcome The Registered Nurse assesses, plans, implements and evaluates nursing care in collaboration with a multidisciplinary health care team comprises On-site and Remote GPs, AHP, AHW trainees, Health Services Manager and other non-clinical staff, so as to achieve goals and health outcomes for Homelands Clients.
Remote Area Nurse (RAN) in MHHS, you will provide high quality, evidenced-based care; education for assigned health programs portfolio (Chronic Disease, Child Health, Women's Health, Mental Health); and participate in routine service delivery of vaccinations to the homelands community.
You will mentor Aboriginal Health Practitioner (AHW) trainees, support AHPs and AHW trainees as the primary health carers within the community, and work to build stronger communities.
Using skills and knowledge to deliver quality health care and meet all legal obligations Supporting and participating in all initiatives and change processes that aim to improve service delivery Travel by manual 4WD/light aircraft required.
Is the role right for you?
A relevant tertiary qualification degree and current registration with AHPRA.
Current REC, MEC, BLS, ALS, Immunization, Pharmacotherapeutics certifications or willingness to obtain the certifications within 6 months of employment.
Ideally experience working and living in a remote Indigenous community, which is an alcohol-free environment Demonstrated ability to engage effectively and sensitively with Indigenous people for whom English is not their first language Demonstrated ability and experience to work autonomously and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team in a small, remote Aboriginal Controlled Health Service delivering primary and dental health care Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of social determinants of health issues affecting Aboriginal people Current manual driver's license, current Working with Children clearance (OCHRE Card) and current criminal history check.
Demonstrated ability to work autonomously, demonstrating efficient time management skills.
