About the role:
The Indigenous Healing Service (IHS) provides healing, support, counselling and a therapeutic response to children, young people and their families who are affected by child sexual abuse, family and domestic violence and/or grief and loss.
The IHS assists children, young people, and adults to recover from the harmful impacts of trauma and assists families and communities to support children and young people in the healing process.
The Counsellor will be responsible for ensuring the provision of professional child/young people, adult and family counselling services in consultation with the Principal Practitioner and Pilbara Services Manager.

This is a Fixed Term Full-Time 38 hours per week until 30.06.2026 opportunity based in Port Hedland, WA within our Indigenous Healing Service, WA program. The position reports to the Principal Practitioner WA/NT.

Key Selection Criteria:
To be successful in this role, you will have:
A knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture and values and an awareness of the current issues faced by Aboriginal children, young people, and their families.
A knowledge and understanding of the impact of trauma, including issues related to child sexual abuse, domestic violence, and grief/loss.
An appropriate tertiary qualification in Psychology, Social Work, Counselling or a related discipline is preferred. A relevant Diploma/s or Certificate/s combined with extensive relevant professional and lived- experience will be considered. Aboriginal applicants with any of these, or similar/relevant are encouraged to apply.
Experience in working therapeutically with children, young people, and families.

Hourly Rate of $49.28 to $51.51 as outlined in the SCHADS Award Level 5, dependent on qualification and experience.

You must have a:
Valid and current Driver's Licence;
Satisfactory Criminal History Check (paid for by MacKillop);
Valid Employee Working with Children Check;
