Harmony is the largest gold producer by volume in South Africa and is a significant operator of gold tailings retreatment facilities.
In Papua New Guinea, Harmony owns and operates the Hidden Valley mine and owns 50% of the Tier 1 Wafi-Golpu copper-gold project.
Harmony owns 100% of the Eva Copper project, a near-term copper project in Queensland, Australia.
These assets are supported by the Harmony Australasia regional corporate office located in Milton, Brisbane.
Reporting to the Head of Legal & Company Secretary, this role will provide legal and company secretarial services to companies within Harmony Australasia (HMYA) including ensuring good corporate governance and compliance with applicable regulations.
The key responsibilities of this role include:
Provide efficient, timely and commercially focused legal advice, common sense plain English drafting, support and assistance to relevant HMYA entities and stakeholder groups across a diverse range of legal issues.
Working with HMYA's operations team (in Brisbane, Port Moresby and in PNG), to provide legal services in connection with the present and future operations (including extensions and expansions) of HMYA's mining operations.
Working with the Eva Copper Project team, to provide legal services in connection with the construction, development, permitting and operation of the Eva Copper mine in North Queensland.
Assisting the HMYA Growth & New Business team, to provide legal services in connection with the investigation, evaluation, negotiation, due diligence and acquisition of New Business opportunities.
Working with HMYA's procurement team to advise, negotiate, prepare and execute goods, services, consultancy, construction, project and other commercial agreements and probity issues and maintain and update HMYA's library of commercial contract precedents.
Provide legal services legal services in connection with employment issues arising in both Australia and PNG to the Human Resources management team.
Managing litigation and advise on potential claims.
Managing the engagement and performance of external legal advisors as required.
Preparing resolutions, corporate registers and other corporate minutes for HMYA companies in Australia and PNG.
Identifying and mitigating risks, address corporate governance and regulatory issues across a range of company activities.
Liaising with external government and other agencies in Australia and PNG, to prepare, exchange and file returns, reports and related correspondence arising out of the above matters.
About You :
To succeed in this role, you should be self-motivated and able to work efficiently and collaboratively holding the following qualifications and experience:
Admitted as a solicitor in one or more States in Australia (or equivalent qualifications from overseas and taking steps to be admitted in Australia) Minimum 4 years' experience.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to effectively communicate with stakeholders at all levels.
Experience in project, construction and/or resources law (desirable).
Experience in-house with a mining company or engineering firm providing services to the resource sector (desirable).
