Any other documents required please add to Additional Documents.Closes September 20th 2024PURPOSE:Reporting to the Manager of CBU Recreation Services, the Coordinator, Intramural Sports & Recreation is responsible for the development and delivery of comprehensive and inclusive recreation programs to enhance the health and well-being of students, faculty, staff, and community members. This role includes all aspects relating to the planning, operating, and maintenance of the Athletics and Recreation facilities. The hours of work for this position will be afternoons/evenings.Student access and an improved student experience are key objectives of the Coordinator. The Coordinator is responsible for optimizing facility use and balancing programming requirements to maximize space. Responsibilities include preparing and monitoring the departmental budget and providing programming to meet the varied needs of students, faculty, staff, and community members: intramural sports and recreation. The Coordinator participates in annual and long-term planning and resource allocation, interfacing with Varsity Athletics, Recreation, campus departments, students, faculty, staff, and community groups.This position involves a high degree of independent decision-making, responsibility, and personal initiative.SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:Plan, organize, deliver, and evaluate recreation programs, including hiring, training, and evaluation of student staff and volunteers.Work closely with the Manager of CBU Recreation Services to implement a facility usage plan to maximize facility space.Responsible for financial planning, monitoring, and management for program areas, including intramural activities, equipment purchases, and employees.Assist with recruitment, hiring, training, scheduling, and evaluation of intramural staff.Manage the web-based IMLeagues platform for league/tournament postings, registration, schedules, and statistics.Explore and provide opportunities for participation in less traditional and emerging sports.Plan, manage, and promote open recreation activities and ensure equipment availability.Communicate effectively with participants regarding activity schedules and additional opportunities.Assist with developing policies and procedures for safe and fair play.Support a culture that resolves concerns and issues in a timely manner.Develop and manage an efficient communication strategy promoting engagement in recreation programs and events.Liaise with internal departments to assess student needs.Promote healthy and active behaviors through marketing and communication channels.Build a library of promotional material highlighting student experiences.Manage capital assets and ensure program quality and facility risk management.Ensure availability and set-up of equipment.Coordinate regular facility and equipment checks and maintenance.Assist with developing and implementing risk management policies.Lead a student development program that includes hiring, training, and evaluating part-time student employees.Prepare staff schedules and payroll forms.Other duties as assigned by the Manager of Recreation Services.QUALIFICATIONS and SKILLS:Undergraduate degree in Physical Education, Recreation, Kinesiology, or a related field.Demonstrated experience in sport, wellness, health, active living & recreation administration.Knowledge and interest in university and community recreation development.Understanding of risk management related to health and safety.Excellent organizational, time management, and planning skills.Knowledge of the local and regional community is an asset.Minimum 1-3 years related experience.Cape Breton University is strongly committed to fostering diversity within our community and welcomes those who would contribute to the further diversification of our staff and faculty.
