Mission Australia's Café One (Cairns) is a social enterprise program which provides people with a history of rough sleeping and chronic homelessness the opportunity to participate in vocational training and employment.
The primary responsibility of the Café One Coordinator is to develop, prepare, support, and assess the trainees who are undertaking the qualification of Certificate 1 in Hospitality and the barista course, in accordance with contractual and compliance requirements. The purpose of the program is to assist those vulnerable in the community to gain skills to become financially independent.
Your key responsibilities will be to: Provide oversight of all Café One operationsCoordinate and provide barista services at community engagement activitiesEnsure quality food and service are compliant with QLD Health laws, regulations, and Food Safety StandardsBe responsible for the ordering of supplies to support the coffee van operationsProvide ongoing training, supervision, and support to Café One Trainees and assist Trainees to achieve their qualification and obtain employment or ongoing training following the completion of their traineeshipRequirements for Success: Relevant degree (desirable) and/or formal qualifications at trade levelDemonstrated knowledge and experience working with people who have experienced long-term homelessness and the ability to work with disadvantaged people in a compassionate and effective mannerKnowledge of barista, food preparation, hygiene practices, and workplace health and safetyThe ability to lead, supervise, and mentor a group of TraineesStrong organisational and administrative skillsThe ability to work with limited supervision including prioritising work and managing time effectivelyThe ability maintain professional boundariesThe ability to cope with the physical demands of the position (such as prolonged standing, bending/squatting/twisting, lifting, reaching etc)Before starting work with us, you will need to undertake a national police history check, qualifications, and referee checks, and have a clearance to work with children/vulnerable people.
