This role reports to the Manager Buildings, Property & Capital and will lead a team of specialists who deliver the capital works program.
It will ensure all building and major capital projects are adequately resourced, scoped, planned and prioritised, aligning with Council's policies, procedures and governance.
Working with the community and other key stakeholders, this role will enable and encourage input into the planning, design, and delivery of capital projects across the municipality.
As a key contributor to the Council's leadership team, this role will improve the capability and capacity of the key project teams to meet the requirements of sponsors and the community whilst proactively identifying and implementing process improvements.
The position will work as a key contributor to improve the capability and capacity of the Project Delivery Teams to meet the requirements of project sponsors and the community, proactively identifying and implementing process improvements whilst effectively engaging across the broader organisation.
Your expertise will provide strategic advice to Council executives and elected representatives, balancing commercial considerations with community needs while navigating complex stakeholder environments.
Strong strategic thinking and negotiation skills will be essential for maximising community benefits from the capital works portfolio and ensuring sound financial management.
You will drive an environment of high performance and collaboration to deliver exceptional outcomes for residents.
The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in capital works, with particular emphasis on project management.
Your proven ability to navigate complex stakeholder environments and build productive relationships will be crucial in this position, as you'll be working with various internal departments, community groups, and external partners.
You have strong commercial acumen with the ability to manage complex contracts to deliver the best quality outcomes for Council and its community.
You are a strategic problem solver, with the ability to effectively navigate the current construction climate, including contractor engagement, material shortages and cost escalations.
As a contemporary leader, you are known for your technical aptitude with the ability to uplift the capability, maturity and culture of your teams.
You are confident in our ability to engage and manage a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders, and navigating political and sensitive environments.
Your proven experience leading significant capital works programs client side or contractor side will be paired with a formal qualification in engineering, architecture, construction, project management or related field.
While not essential, an understanding of local government processes and community engagement would be highly advantageous, allowing you to hit the ground running in this unique environment that balances commercial objectives with community needs.
