What we offer Salary packaging options up to $18,450 per annum tax freeRemote allowance of $3,300 per annum (if applicable)Annual airfare allowance6 weeks annual leave3 weeks personal leaveAbout the role The North Australian Aboriginal Justice Agency is seeking a dedicated Coordinator to oversee the Custody Notification Service in Darwin, Northern Territory.
As the Coordinator – Custody Notification Service, you will play a crucial role in ensuring Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in custody are provided with appropriate legal and welfare support.
What you'll be doing Manage the Custody Notification Service, a 24-hour legal advice and support phone line ensuring efficient and responsive operationsProvide immediate legal advice and referrals to Aboriginal people held in police custodyCoordinate the delivery of essential welfare services, including accessing medical care and connecting with family membersLiaise with police, courts, and other stakeholders to advocate for the rights and wellbeing of detaineesMaintain detailed records and prepare reports on the Custody Notification Service's activitiesContribute to the development of policies and procedures to continuously improve the serviceSupervise and support a team of case workers to deliver high-quality client servicesWhat we're looking for Admission (or eligibility for admission) as a legal practitioner in the Northern Territory with a minimum of 3 years post-admission experience in criminal lawAn understanding of the issues affecting Aboriginal children in the child protection and justice systemA demonstrated understanding and sensitivity to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their history and cultureExcellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively liaise with a diverse range of stakeholdersStrong problem-solving and decision-making abilities, with the capacity to work under pressureExperience in effectively managing and developing a diverse team to deliver high-quality client servicesRequirements Ability to obtain a satisfactory "Working with Children Clearance" (Ochre Card) upon commencementSatisfactory criminal history check and no history of disqualification from employment by a legal practiceAbility and willingness to undertake shift workApply now to join our dedicated team and make a positive impact!
