Full-time Cook position available in Canberra, ACT 2601.
SKILLS: The role requires you to hold at least a relevant AQF (or equivalent) Cert IV and 1 year of relevant work experience.
RESPONSIBILITIES: As the Cook, you will be responsible for preparing and cooking a variety of dishes according to chefs' specifications and recipes.
The ideal candidate should have a strong understanding of food handling procedures, be able to set up daily mise-en-place and ensure the attractive display of food items.
Additionally, the Cook will assist in receiving food checks and event orders, maintaining cleanliness and organisation in the kitchen and monitoring food quality and safety standards.
Working under the guidance of the Chef, you will ensure that our café can serve quality meals in an efficient and timely manner to our customers.
This position requires a passion for cooking, attention to detail and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen setting.
TASKS: Know and adhere to proper handling procedures for food, equipment, and utensils.Prepare food according to chefs' specifications and recipes.Set up daily mise-en-place for efficient kitchen operations.Ensure the attractive display of food items on counters, buffets, or where required.Receive food checks and event orders and prepare them as required.Clean and maintain your working space, storage areas, equipment, and utensils.Ensure that kitchen equipment is properly maintained and in good working condition.
Report any equipment malfunctions or maintenance issues to the Chef.Check the quality of sauces, meats, fish, vegetables, fruits, and all pre-cooked and raw items to prevent spoilage.Inspect the kitchen before service begins, ensuring everything is neat and tidy.Regulate temperatures of ovens, grills, and other cooking equipment.Season food during cooking to enhance flavour.Supervise and participate in meal service to ensure timely delivery of orders.Work closely with other kitchen staff to ensure smooth operations and effective communications.Train other kitchen staff and apprentices as needed.Cooperate and delegate work in a fair and efficient manner.Monitor sanitation practices and follow kitchen safety standards.Monitor inventory levels of food supplies and ingredients, notifying the Chef of any shortages or discrepancies.
Assist in maintaining accurate inventory levels.ADDITIONAL ATTRIBUTES: Knowledge of food-related curriculum and training techniques.Work well in a team environment and communicate clearly with others.Understanding of raw materials, quality control and relevant skills for the effective creation and distribution of food products.Knowledge of food preparation regulations and standards.SALARY: An annual salary of $70,000 - $80,000 based on experience.
