About Your Role The Consumer Peer Worker (Community Mental Health) will:
draw upon their own lived experience of mental health challenges and personal recovery journey to provide peer support and advocacy to people accessing specialist Community Mental Health and Drug & Alcohol (MHDA) services across the lifespanuse a strengths-based, trauma informed approach which holds the person at the centre of care whilst recognising the unique nature and boundaries of the role within the multi-disciplinary teamaim to develop rapport with consumers to engender an atmosphere of trust, empathy, respect, hope and encouragement with those accessing the specialist community MHDA services.Where relevant the Consumer Peer Worker will:
actively and appropriately share knowledge gained through one's personal lived experience of mental ill health and recoveryaim to support the consumer to maintain their mental health and wellbeing, by promoting collaborative decision making, engagement, choice and empowerment in their individual treatment and recovery.The Consumer Peer Worker is responsible and accountable to the local Specialist Community Mental Health (CMH) Team Leader and will work collaboratively as part of the CMH multidisciplinary team to implement effective and planned peer led recovery activities as agreed and appropriate within the service. The MLHD MHDA Coordinator, Consumer Participation Strategy will work alongside the CMH Manager and the CMH Team Leaders to provide strategic direction to the consumer peer workforce, and guidance and regular supervision to the Consumer Peer Worker in relation to their roles and professional development.
