About this role This role provides clinical / research leadership in the multidisciplinary team providing state level specialist medical services to patients in respiratory medicine with a particular focus on cystic fibrosis and bronchiectasis; promotes patient safety and quality of care; provides leadership, orientation, training, supervision and education, where relevant, for doctors in training, Health Service Medical Practitioners and other health workers; in collaboration with the Head of Department and other Consultants works to achieve national, state and NMHS performance standards and targets; works within the scope of clinical practice as defined and recommended by the Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital (SCGH) Medical Credentialing and Scope of Clinical Practice Committee.
This role reports to the Head of Department for Respiratory Medicine.

This role will provide specialist medical services to patients in Respiratory Medicine with a focus on subspecialty care in cystic fibrosis lung disease and bronchiectasis as part of the state service. The applicant will join a large tertiary department that currently includes 18 Respiratory consultants, subspecialty nurses, and specialist allied health practitioners. Last year the department delivered well over 20000 outpatient appointments.
The post will, alongside senior colleagues, provide leadership, orientation, training, supervision and education, where relevant, for clinicians in training, Health Service Medical Practitioners and other health workers. Contributes to, and preferentially leads, additional research in CF and/or non-CF bronchiectasis to complement this existing active area. In collaboration with the Head of Department and other Consultants works to achieve national, state and NMHS performance standards and targets. Works within the scope of clinical practice as defined and recommended by the Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital Medical Credentialing and Scope of Clinical Practice Committee.
RequirementsEligible for registration by the Medical Board of Australia.Eligible for Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians or equivalent.Demonstrates extensive knowledge and skills in the practice of respiratory medicine, with especial focus on cystic fibrosis, bronchiectasis and lung infection.Demonstrates high level skills in all aspects of the relevant college competency framework.Demonstrates experience and commitment to clinical teaching and clinical research.Demonstrates knowledge and application of quality improvement principles and practices.Demonstrates ability to provide leadership, facilitate effective multidisciplinary teamwork and provide patient centric care.Demonstrates high level communication, interpersonal, negotiation and conflict resolution skills.Current knowledge of legislative obligations for Equal Opportunity, Disability Services and Occupational Safety and Health, and how these impact on employment and service delivery.Subspecialty experience and expertise relevant to cystic fibrosis and bronchiectasis.Subspecialty training and extensive clinical experience in the investigation and management of cystic fibrosis, bronchiectasis and lung infection. Track record of working within / leading specialist cystic fibrosis MDT.Demonstrated a strong research interest with award of a higher research degree.Demonstrated successful supervision of HDR candidates.Demonstrated an internationally competitive academic record with ongoing leadership.Demonstrated impact on clinical care, guidelines and experience in implementation.Demonstrated a clinical governance focus, a proven track record of health service improvement in CF and/or non-CF bronchiectasis/lung infection with ongoing leadership in this area.Salary and Benefits0.8FTE MP Year 1-9 $336,466 - $427,886 p.a.
