Genetic Pathologist Position Sullivan Nicolaides Pathology (SNP) is a large Private Pathology practice with its main laboratory in Bowen Hills in Brisbane and a network of 22 hospital and regional laboratories throughout Queensland and Northern NSW. Employing more than 3500 people, it provides high quality and comprehensive pathology service to patients and doctors over a wide geographic area of Australia. The 100+ Pathologists at SNP cover all disciplines and subspecialties, providing abundant opportunities for professional interaction. SNP maintains its Partnership structure, while at the same time being part of the Sonic Healthcare Group Federation of Practices.
SNP is acknowledged as a market leader in the area of Genetic testing and the Genetics Department at SNP is the main referral laboratory for all Sonic Australia laboratories for these areas of genetic testing: Cytogenetics (constitutional, prenatal, products of conception and oncology; karyotype, FISH and microarray) and Somatic Mutation testing (solid tumours and haematological malignancies, ranging from single gene tests to comprehensive genomic profiling). SNP also shares the workload of NIPT and common inherited gene testing with our sister laboratory Douglass Hanly Moir Pathology in Sydney.
SNP's Genetics Department is led by an experienced Genetic Pathologist, Dr James Harraway, supported by several highly skilled Senior Scientists and has a total staff of over 150 Scientists and Pathology Assistants. Two Genetic Pathology trainees are based at this laboratory. It uses a range of state-of-the-art equipment to perform a wide menu of sophisticated tests and is supported in this by an advanced Laboratory Information System which was developed in-house. It is currently performing tumour comprehensive genomic profiling as a major node of the PrOSPeCT trial of over 20,000 cancers from Australian patients.
We are currently seeking applicants for the position of Genetic Pathologist based at our central Bowen Hills laboratory in Brisbane. This is intended as a full-time position, but part-time or other flexible working arrangements will be considered. The successful applicant will be involved in the reporting of a broad range of Genetic Pathology tests, participating in laboratory activities and liaising with clinicians.
Applicants should be registered by Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as a medical practitioner and have FRCPA in Genetic Pathology, either current or expected in 2025. New Fellows in Genetic Pathology are encouraged to apply.
Remuneration will be at a competitive level, commensurate with experience.
