This is a recruitment pool offering Permanent Full time, Fixed term and Part-time – up to 80 hours per fortnight appointments.
MP Year 1 – 9 $377,557 - $479,490 per annum*
*(Salary as per WA Health System Medical Practitioners AMA Industrial Agreement 2022: Salary is inclusive of base salary as part of Arrangement A $306,690 – $398,110 per annum, $31,926 per annum professional development allowance, 11.5% employer contributed superannuation). Part-time is prorated. This is subject to the assessment of clinical skills and experience.

The role
We are seeking a passionate Rural/Regional Generalist Psychiatrist to join our team. In this role, you will provide clinical leadership, offer expert advice, consultation, and support to healthcare professionals, and manage the examination, assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of patients referred to Midwest Mental Health and Community Alcohol and Drugs Service. Consultants with specialty certificates or areas of interest are welcome to incorporate these into the service. This position offers the opportunity to make a significant impact on the lives of individuals and the broader community.
The Successful Candidates will
Be eligible for registration by the Medical Board of Australia as a specialist in psychiatry.
Have Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists or approved equivalent.
Have extensive clinical experience in general mental health.
About the Pool and Appointment
This is an active recruitment pool which will be assessed on a regular basis by the panel to fill both immediate vacant position and future vacancies. Please note the below:
Suitable applicants will be placed in a pool from which appointments will be made when similar vacancies occur.
Appointments may be made from this pool until 31/10/2025.
About the Midwest Region
The Midwest region of Western Australia covers more than 600,000 km2, nearly one fifth of the State, with its population concentrated along the coast. The region is located in the northern middle section of Western Australia and incorporates four health districts - Gascoyne, Geraldton, Midwest, and Murchison. Specialist International Medical Graduates

Please note, in line with the requirements of the Medical Board of Australia Registration Standards: Specialist Registration it is a breach of National Law for practitioners to use the protected 'Specialist' title if they do not hold specialist registration with AHPRA. SIMGs completing a supervision period with Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatry as part of the specialist assessment process cannot be appointed to a consultant specialist position with WACHS until the practitioner holds specialist registration and it is reflected on the AHPRA website. WACHS can appoint suitable applicants as a Senior Medical Practitioner, Health Service Medical Practitioner or District Medical Officer while supporting the completion of the supervision period. Individual assessment of a SIMG application will determine the appropriate classification individual practitioners can be appointed to.
To be eligible for a permanent appointment to the Western Australian public sector, it is essential that you are an Australian citizen or hold permanent residency status in Australia.
