About 1 month ago , from Western Australia Government WA Country Health Service (WACHS) is offering a unique opportunity for a Consultant Psychiatrist -Adult for one of its highly desirable regions - the Great Southern region.This is a recruitment pool for Permanent full time/part-time – up to 80 hours per fortnight appointments.*(Salary as per WA Health System Medical Practitioners AMA Industrial Agreement 2022: Salary is inclusive of base salary as part of Arrangement A $306,690 – $398,110 per annum, $31,926 per annum professional development allowance, 11.5% employer contributed superannuation). This is subject to the assessment of clinical skills and experience.About the Role and Mental Health DepartmentThe Great Southern Mental Health Service is a well-established service. The adult psychiatry portion of the service is comprised of an authorised inpatient unit with a total of 16 beds, including 4 PICU beds, which is co-located with the Community Mental Health Clinic. The Adult Community Mental Health is comprised of the Acute Assessment & Treatment Team, and the longer-term Continuing Treatment Team. Each team has a psychiatrist, at least one registrar, resident medical officer, experienced nurses, Aboriginal mental health workers and a mix of allied health professionals. The team is responsible for caring for those who need specialist mental health care in the community and inpatient setting and provide necessary pharmacological, behavioural, and therapeutic interventions with an emphasis on a multidisciplinary approach.The adult team works alongside the other teams in the mental health service: Community Older Adult and Child and Adolescent, and Inpatient Consultation Liaison. In total, there are currently 5 consultant psychiatrists, 7 registrars, 2 resident medical officers, and 2 interns making up the medical team, resulting in robust peer support network. There is a strong commitment to ongoing education, training, and research with ongoing projects and links with the local Rural Clinical School and Universities. The caseloads and on-call requirements are extremely manageable. Consultants with specialty certificates or areas of interest are welcome to incorporate these into the service.You will be responsible for:Provision of clinical assessment and psychiatric treatment for adults in the community or inpatient setting.Liaising and conferring regularly with general practitioners and other health care professionals.Supervising and training medical students and junior doctors, including a training registrarInitiating or participating in research projects relevant to the mental health service.Participating in the on-call roster for the mental health team and the ECT roster.The successful candidates will:Be eligible for registration by the Medical Board of Australia as a specialist in psychiatry.Have Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists or approved equivalent.Have extensive clinical experience in adult mental health.Information for Specialist International Medical GraduatesWe encourage applications from international specialists and international medical graduates (IMGs). SIMGs completing a supervision period with Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatry as part of the specialist assessment process cannot be appointed to a consultant specialist position with WACHS until the practitioner holds specialist registration and it is reflected on the AHPRA website. WACHS can appoint suitable applicants as a Senior Medical Practitioner, Health Service Medical Practitioner or District Medical Officer while supporting the completion of the supervision period. Individual assessment of a SIMG application will determine the appropriate classification individual practitioners can be appointed to.To be eligible for a permanent appointment to the Western Australian public sector, it is essential that you are an Australian citizen or hold permanent residency status in Australia.About the Pool and Appointment:This is an active recruitment pool which will be assessed on a regular basis by the panel to fill both immediate vacant position and future vacancies.
