Consultant Psychiatrist - CAMHS - Albany Hospital Western Australia - Country Health Service This is a recruitment pool offering Permanent full time/part-time – up to 80 hours per fortnight appointments. MP Year 1 – 9 $377,557 - $479,490 per annum, pro rata* *(Salary as per WA Health System Medical Practitioners AMA Industrial Agreement 2022: Salary is inclusive of base salary as part of Arrangement A $306,690 – $398,110 per annum, $31,926 per annum professional development allowance, 11.5% employer contributed superannuation). This is subject to the assessment of clinical skills and experience. About the Role and Mental Health Department The Great Southern Mental Health service is well established and involved Child and Adolescent, general Adult and Older Adult services in the community, Consultant Liaison service to the general hospital wards and a 16-bed adult inpatient unit. The CAMHS team includes an existing psychiatrist, registrar, psychologist, nursing, social work, occupational therapy, and Aboriginal mental health workers. The CAMHS team is based in the community clinic in Albany, with outreach to other towns in the region. They see the full range of conditions in the 0-18 age range and work closely with the local paediatric team and other local youth services as well as adult mental health services to ensure a smooth transition of care. There is also well-established links with the local Rural Clinical School and Universities for research and teaching opportunities. The team is committed to service improvement and is always looking for ways to maximise early access to assessment and treatment and to services such as Family Based Therapy which give young people in the region the best chance at success.

CAMHS is co-located with the other mental health services in the region. There are currently a total of 5 psychiatrists and 7 registrars which provides a strong local and supportive peer group. Caseloads and on-call requirements are extremely manageable.

You will be responsible for:

Provision of clinical assessment and psychiatric treatment for children and adolescents aged 0-18 in the community mental health setting. Liaising and conferring regularly with general practitioners, paediatricians, and other health care professionals. Supervising and training medical students and junior doctors, including a training registrar. Initiating or participating in research projects relevant to the mental health service. Participating in the on-call roster for the mental health team and the ECT roster. The successful candidates will: Be eligible for registration by the Medical Board of Australia as a specialist in psychiatry. Have Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists or approved equivalent. Have extensive clinical experience in CAMHS mental health. To be eligible for a permanent appointment to the Western Australian public sector, it is essential that you are an Australian citizen or hold permanent residency status in Australia.
