Position Title: Conservation Ranger.

Employment Status: Permanent Full-time (commencing February 2025).

Department: Environment, Heritage & Resilience.

Location: Merrimac.

Award Classification: Stream A, Level 5.

Salary: $90,807 – $ 94,572 per annum.

Hours: 36 hours per week- 9 day fortnight.

About the team.

As part of the Environment and Heritage Branch, the Natural Areas Conservation (NAC) business unit oversees the daily management and showcasing of a 13,000-hectare estate containing significant and diverse biological values.
Our team is dedicated to protecting and enhancing conservation reserves spanning from the McPherson Range to Southern Moreton Bay.

About your new role.

In this dynamic role, you'll help manage the City's conservation estate—both natural and built.
Collaborating closely with the Team Leader, you'll bring your technical expertise and hands-on experience to the forefront, engaging with community members and overseeing contractors for effective project delivery.
Conduct on-the-ground assessments and investigations that drive decision-making, all while contributing to the preservation and enhancement of our beautiful natural environments.

Responsibilities include:
Take the lead on vital management actions for the City's natural areas, focusing on caring for vegetation, ensuring bushfire safety, and protecting habitats.
Streamline the process for park use and scientific permits, making sure we stay compliant with all regulations.
Drive exciting conservation projects that enhance our green spaces and built assets, while also renewing existing facilities.
Be the go-to for community and Councilor inquiries, responding quickly and keeping everyone in the loop.
Oversee minor capital works like managing gates, fences, park signage, and ensuring bushfire safety zones are in place.
Manage operational budgets and ensure everything from vegetation care to fire trail audits aligns with our governance standards.
Foster a safe working environment through our Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) system, ensuring staff safety in remote areas.
Get involved with biodiversity monitoring, manage human-wildlife interactions, and coordinate weekend Ranger patrols, collaborating with various stakeholders along the way.
Use GIS and data capture systems to support and enhance our conservation initiatives.
We're looking for people who have:
Diploma Science (Environment & Sustainability) or equivalent knowledge.
Cert IV Leadership & Management or equivalent knowledge.
Statement of Attainment Fire Management Level 1 or equivalent knowledge.
Driver's Licence (C Class).
Excellent communication skills for engaging with community members and stakeholders.
A passion for the environment with a strong commitment to sustainability.
