Join us as a Conservation Officer and take on a vital role in implementing the SEQ Koala Conservation Strategy. This is an opportunity to use your regulatory experience and problem-solving skills to make a direct impact on sustainable development and Koala conservation in SEQ.
The Department of Environment, Tourism, Science and Innovation is recruiting a Conservation Officer with experience in development assessment/planning and/or environmental compliance. You will be part of a small multi-disciplinary team responsible for providing technical advice on the impacts of development on Koala habitat in SEQ, conducting both assessment and compliance activities, and providing technical advice on how developments can retain and protect Koala habitat and maintain safe Koala movement opportunities.
The successful applicant will be highly motivated, with demonstrated skills in regulatory assessment, planning and/or compliance and the ability to develop and maintain effective collaborative relationships. Knowledge and experience in Koala ecology and project management is highly desirable.
As the Conservation Officer you will:

Contribute to the development of policies and guidelines pertaining to the conservation of Koalas.Advise, consult and negotiate with stakeholders including local, state and federal governments, prospective applicants, industry representatives, community groups and members of the public.Prepare timely, well-researched briefings, technical reports, submissions, publications, guidance material, and executive and ministerial correspondence.Undertake assessment and compliance activities under relevant legislation including the Planning Act 2016, and State Development Assessment Provisions - State Code 25: Development in SEQ koala habitat areas.Lead compliance activities, conduct site inspections, gather evidence to support enforcement action, and make recommendations in accordance with the DETSI Enforcement Guidelines.We're searching for someone with in-depth understanding of environmental laws and the finesse to manage related policies adeptly.
