The Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) is the leading advocate for surgical standards, professionalism and surgical education in Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand. The College is a not-for-profit organisation that represents more than 8600 surgeons and 1300 surgical trainees and Specialist International Medical Graduates.
RACS also supports healthcare and surgical education in the Asia-Pacific region and is a substantial funder of surgical research. There are nine surgical specialties in Australasia: Cardiothoracic Surgery, General Surgery, Neurosurgery, Orthopaedic Surgery, Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery, Paediatric Surgery, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Urology, and Vascular Surgery.
About the Role
As the Manager, Conferences and Events, you will lead a talented team to deliver seamless events that reflect RACS' values and strategic goals. Your role will encompass day-to-day management, strategic planning, and continuous improvement of event delivery, with a strong focus on engagement, collaboration, and innovation. You will play a pivotal role in growing event sponsorships, managing key relationships with specialty societies, and ensuring that each event meets the high standards expected by RACS and its stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:

Lead the Conferences and Events team, fostering a collaborative, professional, successful and high-performance culture.Develop and implement a strategic events plan aligned with RACS' values and objectives.Oversee the successful execution of large-scale conferences, ensuring operational excellence and high-quality delivery.Manage budgeting, sponsorships, and partnerships to drive revenue and strengthen event impact.Engage with key stakeholders, including Fellows, specialty societies, venues, sponsors, and vendors, to build and maintain long-term relationships.Provide strategic and operational support to RACS committees and boards involved in event planning.Continuously assess and mitigate risks associated with event delivery, ensuring a safe and effective experience for all attendees.About You
You bring proven experience managing high-profile conferences and events, ideally within a complex or healthcare-related environment. With a strong background in budgeting, strategic planning, and team leadership, you are known for your collaborative approach and ability to navigate complex challenges with confidence.
Qualifications and Skills:

Tertiary qualification in events or business management or substantial relevant experience.Extensive experience in managing large conferences and major marketing campaigns.Strong financial acumen and experience in budgeting, contract management, and sponsorship negotiation.Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and a professional approach to stakeholder engagement.Effective leadership and mentoring skills, fostering a positive and productive team environment.Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic setting.At our organisation, we are proud to have a positive impact on improving health outcomes in the community.
