Support families caring for young people with complex disabilitiesLooking for candidates with a good understanding the NDISand Family ServicesBased at the Bendigo office|full time|permanentYour role: The aim of the program is to support and engage with families where children are at risk of requiring care outside the home due to the children's complex disability support needs. The position will conduct comprehensive family assessments that identify the impacts of children's complex disabilities and the supports required to promote positive family functioning.
The position will build on family strengths, resilience and parenting capacity by providing flexible and responsive outreach visits to deliver a range of interventions and approaches in a family-centred way. Approaches used will include strong advocacy, creativity and a willingness to source practical solutions that will make a difference to the family. Siblings of children with a disability may need specific support.
The position will also build the capacity of Family Services Practitioners to navigate the NDIS via secondary consultation, information sharing, education sessions and specialist support, ensuring timely access to disability supports for families where relevant.
Applicants need to have a strong understanding of the disability sector and the NDIS and a formal qualification in either social work or welfare studies.
What will we look for in your application? A relevant tertiary qualification in Social Work, Psychology, Early Childhood Specialist and/or related behavioural sciencesFull Drivers licence.Demonstrated experience and knowledge of the NDIS and the disability sector, specifically regarding NDIS planning, advocacy and an understanding of the range of services that support children who have a disability and their families.Sound understanding of the issues facing families who have children with a disability and demonstrated experience working with families who have children with a disability, including skills in engagement and holistic assessment of needs and action planning.Demonstrated ability to conduct comprehensive safety and wellbeing assessments and work within the Best Interest Principles 'as outlined within the Children, Youth and Families Act 2005 including demonstrated resilience to work with and support clients who have been exposed to trauma, violence or neglect.Experience in collaboration with a wide range of stakeholders to reach the best outcomes for children, young people and families.Experience in conducting risk and needs assessments and developing, contributing to and/or implementing action plans and/or case management, including developing community linkages.Well-developed communication skills and ability to manage both internal and external stakeholders at all levels.Well-developed written and verbal communication, time management and organisational skills.Ability to self-reflect, take on board feedback, and use supervision opportunities to improve one's practice and leadership.What you need to know:
