We have an immediate opening for a highly motivated and expert competition specialist to join Microsoft's Competition & Market Regulation (CMR) group.
The Competition & Market Regulation (CMR) group is at the forefront of ensuring compliance with competition laws and associated regulations, earn approval for mergers and acquisitions, and respond to investigations around the world.
The team also advocates for policymakers, regulators and other stakeholders to thoughtfully consider the evolving role of competition law amidst the dynamic changes in our economy and the rapid development of new technologies.
This role will be responsible for Microsoft's engagement on competition and market regulation in the Asia region, and for providing competition law advice and guidance to Microsoft's Asia business, including sales, engineering, and marketing.
This unique role, combining legal counsel, regulatory affairs and policy advocacy, will cover the Asia region, which includes six areas: Australia and New Zealand, Greater China, India, Japan, Korea, and the ASEAN region.
It is preferred for the role to be based in Singapore, but other locations like Sydney or Tokyo can be considered as well.
This role will require some travel across Asia as it supports work across the region.
The Competition and Market Regulation Lead for Asia will report to the Corporate Vice President of Competition and Market Regulation located in Redmond, Washington, and will work in close partnership with (among others) the CELA area teams in Asia, and the broader community of CELA attorneys and government affairs professionals in CMR.
Qualifications Required Qualifications Juris Doctor Degree or international equivalent degree AND 9+ years experience as a practicing attorney in competition law, market regulation or related areas.Active license to practice law in a jurisdiction and capable of meeting admission requirements in relevant jurisdiction.Prior regional experience covering Asia and willingness to travel within Asia.Preferred Qualifications Strong communications & interpersonal skills; ability to convey complex legal and technical concepts to various audiences, and able to develop/maintain positive working relationships with colleagues, internal/external partners, regulators, legislators, policymakers, and influencers.Solid business acumen; ability to understand the parts of the business and their interrelationships and how legal and regulatory developments can impact them.Analytical & skilled in problem-solving; able to drive outcomes in the best interest of the company, along with providing strategic guidance and thought-leadership in Competition-related policies, investigations and matters.Responsibilities Counseling Microsoft's Asia business on competition law risk by becoming a trusted advisor for key internal stakeholders and building the capability of the CELA Asia team and key Microsoft business partners to proactively identify and mitigate competition law risks.Taking an active role in external outreach with regulators, academics, legislators, economists and other stakeholders.Serving as the regional lead and subject matter expert for competition and market regulation legislative and regulatory proposals.Contributing to the work of the Asia government affairs community and commercial legal community by sharing insights and expertise on regional and global competition and market regulation developments.Managing and developing relationships with outside counsel and other external and internal resources. #J-18808-Ljbffr
