Sports and Recreational Officer - Bimberi Youth Justice Centre
Full-time PermanentDetails: Bimberi Youth Justice Centre is seeking a highly motivated and dedicated individual to join the team as Sports and Recreational Officer.
In this pivotal role, the Sports and Recreational Officer (SRO) will work closely with the Programs and Services Manager to develop and coordinate programs for the young people of Bimberi.
The SRO will liaise directly with Bimberi staff to ensure their understanding of Centre programs, as well as how they are to be delivered and implemented.
The successful applicant will possess a sound understanding of program risk assessments and the ability to schedule programs daily; in the context of the needs and behavioural presentations of the young people residing at Bimberi.
The SRO will also need to maintain relationships with external community agencies who provide programs to Bimberi residents.
This position will also provide health, and wellbeing programs and develops links with community agencies.
The position also provides training of staff in the utilisation of the sporting equipment and facilities.
Bimberi Youth Justice Centre (Bimberi) is a human rights compliant youth detention facility.
The Centre provides safe and secure accommodation for young people between the ages of 12 and 21 years, who are remanded in custody or sentenced by the ACT Children's or Supreme Courts.

Eligibility/ Other Requirements: This position does require an ACT Working with Vulnerable People Check.This position does require a Senior First Aid Certificate.As this role is likely to work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and young people, cultural awareness, the capacity to work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people is highly desirable.Desirable qualifications and experience:
Relevant qualification in sport and recreation or relevant field.Completion of Youth Worker Certificate 4 and/or relevant qualification in the behavioural sciences.Relevant experience in the coordination and facilitation of sporting and recreational activities.Note: A merit pool will be established from this selection process and will be used to fill vacancies over the next 12 months.
