The Community Safety Officer has a holistic understanding of how crime and perceptions of safety influence community participation and wellbeing. The Community Safety Officer works with a range of partners to plan and implement projects designed to improve perceptions of safety and reduce crime, which are underpinned by a social determinants and community development framework.

About the Role
The Community Safety Officer will design and implement a range of community-based initiatives and projects to increase perceptions of safety and reduce crime:
Conduct Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) audits for spaces as required by internal and external stakeholders.Provide advice to statutory planners, urban designers, and other relevant council officers on various Council and private projects based on Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) principles.Design, deliver and evaluate place-based initiatives to prevent crime and increase perceptions of safety.Coordinate the Darebin Neighbourhood Street Parties Program.Perform community safety audits for various places as required.Perform the duties of a Deputy Municipal Emergency Management Officer in close collaboration with Council's Municipal Emergency Management Officer.Skills & Experience
• A tertiary qualification in health promotion, criminal justice, community development or sociology (or related discipline) or lesser formal qualifications with substantial experience.
• Demonstrated experience in conducting CPTED audits and Community Safety Audits.
• Demonstrated understanding of the social determinants relating to crime and community safety.
• Demonstrated ability to analyse and interpret data and implement initiatives to address community safety concerns.
• Demonstrated ability to deliver projects on time and on budget.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both interpersonally and via written documentation, to a range of different audiences.
• Sound ability to build and manage effective relationships with a range of stakeholders.
• Previous experience in the emergency management space is beneficial but not necessary.
