Location ProfileCopperfield College is a multi-campus school situated in Melbourne's North-West. The College is comprised of two junior campuses (Years 7-10) in Kings Park and Sydenham and a senior campus (Years 11-12) at Delahey. We have a student population of approximately 2100, with 180 (EFT) teaching staff, 70 (EFT) Education Support Staff and 7 Principal Class personnel. The SFOE for the College is 0.58, indicating a significant level of social disadvantage. The College is culturally diverse, reflecting our community, with approximately 60% of our students coming from a Language Background other than English.
The college's mission is to empower every student to aspire and achieve, which is a clear focus in our new College Strategic Plan. Our current plans aim at delivering high quality educational outcomes with low in-school variation in everything we do through a Guaranteed and Viable Curriculum. Our Strategic Plan has a major focus on building the capacity of every teacher to work collaboratively as part of a Professional Learning Community to provide differentiated learning challenges to every student. Improving numeracy and literacy are also key foci for all teachers.
Copperfield is a large provider of VET in Schools and a key member of the Brimbank VET Cluster. We are the lead school in a Technical Trade Centre, hosting VET Automotive, VET Electrotechnology and a range of other VET subjects. The College also emphasises the importance of a robust co-curricular and student leadership program. Copperfield has managed to sustain a stable International Student Program and there are currently 24 international students across the College.

Selection CriteriaDemonstrated high level interpersonal and communication skills as evidenced by constructive relationships with families, staff and students.A highly developed ability to design, implement and evaluate strength-based student engagement programs.Appropriate tertiary qualifications and/or experience in Welfare, Community Services, Youth Work or other related fields.Experience in working with Horn of Africa students and an understanding of the language and culture.RoleWorking with the Principal class officers and other key stakeholders of Copperfield College (3 sites), the Community Liaison Officer will be responsible for the delivery and review of programs to increase engagement between students, families and the school. This role has a specific focus on supporting students from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds (CALD), particularly Horn of Africa students and families.
The successful applicant should speak the language and have experience of the Horn of Africa culture. This involves the development and facilitation of engagement strategies and programs, liaison with staff, parents and external service providers, and providing individual support to students and their families with the aim of maximising educational outcomes and increasing student attendance and engagement.
Minimum Requirements: A valid Working with Children Check.
ResponsibilitiesSupport identified students to engage in education and strengthen their attendance.Develop, implement and evaluate strength-based intervention strategies/programs including facilitating groups and school activities to support identified students to access the school curriculum and engage in schooling.Strengthen the connections between the school and different cultural groups within the College community.Liaise effectively with external service providers and assist teachers, students and their families to access these services, including careers and pathways options.Translation and explanation through personal contact regarding school communications and events.Work with the wellbeing team to develop culturally sensitive programs including healthy eating and exercise.Assist in strengthening the connections of families to college events and other college community engagement initiatives.Plan and facilitate community and school-based activities, including during lunch and after school times.Who May ApplyIndividuals with the aptitude, experience and/or qualifications to fulfill the specific requirements of the position.
