Everyone who works within Roses in the Ocean has a lived experience of suicide which is defined as 'having experienced suicidal thoughts, survived a suicide attempt, cared for someone through suicidal crisis, or been bereaved by suicide.'
About the Community-led Safe Spaces Project As a direct result of the systemic advocacy by people with a lived experience of suicide, there has been promising government investment in non-clinical supports for those affected by suicide in Australia.
Roses in the Ocean has played a central role in developing innovative 'safe space' models at both state and national levels.
Roses in the Ocean leverages its expertise in working with people with a lived experience of suicide, co-design initiatives, and our role in establishing the emerging Suicide Prevention Peer Workforce to tailor the versatile Community-led Safe Space model to meet the unique, specific and evolving needs of each community.
About the role Reporting to the Head of Community-Led Safe Spaces, the Community-led Safe Spaces Project Coordinator is responsible for providing proactive support and guidance to Working Groups as well as mentoring Working Group members to establish and implement their Community-led Safe Space in accordance with the parameters of the project.
Key responsibilities: Collaboratively work with team members to oversee project coordination tasks to support the establishment and implementation of the Community-led Safe Spaces project aligned to project timeline milestones.Provide regular mentoring sessions with Working Group members for the duration of the project.Support the onboarding and upskilling of volunteer Peer CARE Companions.Implement best practice service delivery processes, ensuring they are maintained and aligned to the fidelity of the service model.Maintain quality information management and reporting, ensuring project expenditure aligns with the budget.Contribute to continuous improvement and evaluation of the Community-led Safe Spaces project.To succeed in this role, there are some essentials you'll need: Lived experience of suicide and a deep understanding of its impact on families, workplaces, friends, and communities.Previous experience in Service Delivery, Project Management or in a similar role.Must be able to work flexible times including some evenings and weekends (time in lieu arrangements negotiable).Sophisticated interpersonal skills, including the ability to sit comfortably with people who are distressed and have open conversations about suicide and listen with intent.Experience in managing competing priorities, complex tasks and coordinating activities across numerous organisational functions and team members.Demonstrated capacity to maintain confidentiality and professional standards of behaviour in difficult and sensitive circumstances.Demonstrated ability to communicate sensitively and effectively and to build and maintain strong relationships with colleagues and stakeholders at all levels.Demonstrated time-management, logistics and problem-solving skills.Willingness to develop sound knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel), Office 365, SharePoint and Monday.com (desirable).A current Working with Children Check (or willingness to apply).Complete a national criminal history check.At our heart and soul are people with a lived experience of suicide.
