We are seeking a motivated Community Development Worker to join our team! About the Role Working in partnership with Mind Australia, the Community Development Worker will actively engage with the local community, particularly vulnerable members, to promote the Distress Brief Support program, mental health awareness, reduce stigma, and promote wellbeing.
The Community Development Worker will draw upon evidence-informed community development theory and approaches, including intersectional and cultural practice, to inform their work. They will collaborate with all practitioners within the Distress Brief Support program to facilitate community education, social connections, therapeutic groups, events, and capacity building.
As a Community Development Worker, you will use your lived experience to inform practice, build connections, and effectively establish professional relationships with community members. You will identify community engagement points to provide linkage and referral into the Distress Brief Support program to foster positive health and social outcomes.
The Community Development Worker will work collaboratively within the Distress Brief Support program and will provide key knowledge and learnings from the community to inform program development during the co-design and establishment phase of the service.
The Community Development Worker will work closely with the Program Coordinator and Co-design Lead to identify and develop relationships with community and mental health sector stakeholders, facilitate community forums, and actively develop and promote the program.
The Distress Brief Support (DBS) service is being trialed and evaluated in several other states across Australia and is modeled on Scotland's Distress Brief Intervention program.
Primary Care Connect and Mind Australia will provide an intensive 14-day community-based program. This service utilizes members of the community to provide immediate compassionate support to people experiencing distress.
This place-based approach will normalize people's distress and provide appropriate supports to prevent further psychological distress.
Key Selection Criteria The following criteria must be met and addressed in applications for consideration for this position:
Tertiary qualifications (minimum Certificate IV) in Community Development, Health Promotion, Mental Health, Peer Work, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, or PsychologyKnowledge of health, social, and welfare issues that drive distress in the communityProven experience in engaging and working effectively with diverse community and stakeholder groupsDeveloped communication and interpersonal skillsA strong capacity to work in challenging situations, including skills in managing conflict and driving a collaborative cultureProfessional and personal alignment with Primary Care Connect core valuesA current Victorian Driver's LicenseCurrent National Police and Working with Children History CheckBenefits and Perks Primary Care Connect provides a supportive workplace with staff who are committed and passionate about the community we serve.
