Position Title: Communications Specialist - ( 25140115 )
The Teachers' Retirement System (TRS) serves active and retired teachers and educators in the State of Montana.
Its primary purpose is to administer their pension plan, which includes payment of retirement benefits, collection of member contributions, enrollment of new members, and other activities necessary for TRS operations.
We are looking for an individual with a keen ability to design materials that communicate information visually as well as verbally.
The primary responsibility of this position is to create, edit, and maintain a wide variety of informational materials used by TRS members, employers, and staff.
This may include writing and maintaining fact sheets, newsletters, brochures, training handouts, system user manuals, policy documents, board meeting minutes, web content, and other written materials.
It may also include developing educational presentations or videos that effectively communicate information about TRS to various audiences.
The individual selected for this role will:
Assist in the design and development of TRS forms, documents, and reference materials for internal or external use.Work collaboratively with TRS legal counsel, leadership team, subject matter experts and others to expand TRS communication and outreach efforts.Analyze technical or legal concepts and apply exceptional writing, editing, and presentation skills to explain these concepts in an easily understood manner.Assist with creation and maintenance of website content and online help systems as needed.Apply effective and consistent messaging in all areas of communication.Work to a deadline and accept constructive feedback on work products.Seek guidance from the communication manager to achieve stated performance goals.Keep up-to-date with emerging technologies and apply new knowledge to the job.A little bit about TRS: We take pride in ensuring quality and accuracy in everything we do, and we are known for our friendly, top-notch customer service.Our office is located in downtown Helena with access to paid parking.We provide training opportunities.If you feel you have the qualities to be successful in this position, please submit your resume, cover letter, three business references, and at least two work samples.

Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in Public Relations/Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Technical Communications, Education, or a related field appropriate to the position.At least one year experience in communications, technical writing, instructional design, training and development, or similar job-related experience.Alternate combinations of education and experience will be considered on a case-by-case basis.Strong writing, editing, and document design skills.Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, especially Word and PowerPoint (or similar software).Ability to conduct online webinars or meetings using tools such as Zoom or Microsoft Teams.Ability to speak in front of an audience and/or present educational materials online.Knowledge of the following tools and processes (or the ability to learn them):Adobe Creative Suite applications, including InDesign, Acrobat Pro, and Dreamweaver (or similar software).Documentation management and version control.Web content management, with basic knowledge of HTML and CSS.Video and photo editing tools, as well as tools for creating visual aids (e.g., SnagIt, Camtasia, Canva, Photoshop, Premiere).Print and mail production.Only online applications are accepted.
