About the opportunity As a Communications Officer, your main role is to oversee online, digital, and print initiatives, helping to strengthen and enrich the council's communication efforts. In your new role, your days will include: Strategy Development: You will shape and execute digital and social media strategies, connecting people with Torres Strait Island Regional Council projects, events, and activities. Online Media Management: Take charge of our online presence, overseeing websites, social media, and digital PR efforts, ensuring engaging content for diverse audiences. Technology Exploration: Be at the forefront of innovation, exploring new tech to enhance our public relations strategies continually. Brand Management: Maintain our brand identity, adhering to style guides and ensuring consistent messaging across all communications. Customer Service: Deliver top-notch customer service, ensuring stakeholders' needs are met promptly and effectively. Stakeholder Engagement: Forge strong networks within local government and relevant agencies, staying ahead of digital communication trends and requirements. Service Delivery: Drive marketing, media, branding, and communication initiatives to connect with both internal and external stakeholders. Project Delivery: Support the planning, engagement, and implementation of software projects, ensuring smooth execution. In this role, you'll be the driving force behind engaging digital strategies, connecting communities, and shaping the future of communication in Torres Strait Island Regional Council. To be considered for this role you must have: A degree or diploma in communication, public relations, journalism, or a related field, along with proficiency in Microsoft Office and social media platforms. Experience in contemporary digital PR tools and activities is crucial, including managing social media, websites, and intranets. Showcase your excellent organisation and prioritisation abilities, ensuring timely delivery of quality outcomes. Your high level of accuracy and attention to detail will be essential for maintaining quality standards. Demonstrate your proficiency in various PR principles and tools, encompassing traditional media, branding, digital, and social. Highlight your skills in research, writing, editing, and content creation across diverse communication channels and audience types. Showcase your experience in digital media management, social media, and content creation, along with familiarity with analytics tools and CMS platforms. Basic photography and videography skills are a plus, enriching your ability to create compelling content. You should be able to work independently, managing priorities and deadlines effectively, while also contributing collaboratively to team goals. Your strong oral and written communication, coupled with interpersonal skills, will ensure excellent customer service and team collaboration. Having experience with Adobe Creative Suite software and basic graphic design skills, along with familiarity with Wordpress content management system and previous exposure to local government operations, can significantly enrich your adaptability and understanding within our unique context. Additionally, demonstrating cultural sensitivity and effective communication, particularly regarding the issues impacting Torres Strait Islander people, showcases your commitment to inclusivity and community engagement. Occasional travel to the Torres Strait Islands is a requirement of this position.
