Primary objective To provide high level strategic advice and leadership on the communications and engagement needs of the Department of Tourism and Hospitality.
Context statement This position operates in a fast paced environment, dealing with challenging and sensitive topics relevant to the Department of Tourism and Hospitality portfolio responsibilities, in conjunction with frequently changing deadlines and priorities.
Key duties and responsibilities 1.
Provide high level strategic advice in relation to identified projects, strategies, initiatives and stakeholder engagement.
This will include expert advice on digital engagement solutions to complex issues, and the creation and implementation of communications strategies.
2.
Lead a small team to manage the development and delivery of communications, engagement and marketing activities including social media, graphic design, marketing and web content.
3.
Investigate and implement leading practice in marketing, engagement and communications to improve service delivery to stakeholders and clients.
4.
Support the development of departmental publications such as annual reports and be proactive in the production of divisional publications as required.
5.
Engage and manage consultants to ensure delivery of projects on time and within budget.
Selection criteria Essential 1.
Demonstrated high level knowledge of contemporary strategic marketing and public relations principles and methodologies.
2.
A proven track record of formulating and implementing effective marketing and communication campaigns, including planning and logistics, resource allocation and consideration of media, political and stakeholder implications.
3.
Proven ability to deliver communications and marketing projects and activities in-line with the objectives, strategic directions and priorities of the organisation.
4.
Proven ability to manage and provide advice on communication policies and guidelines in accordance with relevant legislation and brand guidelines.
5.
High level interpersonal skills, personal motivation and flexibility conducive to maintaining open and effective relationships with a range of clients including senior executives, managers, departmental staff, the Ministerial offices, consultants, the media and industry.
6.
Proven ability to operate astutely in a politically sensitive environment and demonstrate high levels of strategic and lateral thinking to resolve issues.
7.
Demonstrated management skills for the supervision and leadership of a small team in a dynamic, changing environment with competing priorities.
8.
An ability to interact effectively with people of diverse cultures.

Tertiary qualifications in an appropriate discipline or related field (communications, marketing, graphic design etc).
