Council Overview Strathfield Council (Council) is a medium sized Council located in Sydney's Inner West. The area of the Council comprises approximately 14 square kilometres and has an estimated population of 46,000 residents, which is growing at 2.5-3% annually. Based on NSW Government projections, the population will increase to over 80,000 by 2036.
About the Role Strathfield Council is seeking a motivated Communications & Events Officer to join the Communication and Events team on a Permanent, full-time basis.
The Communications and Events team is responsible for managing Council's message through strategic communications and events, aligned with the goals outlined in the Community Strategic Plan "Strathfield 2035". This involves engaging with residents on important issues, promoting Council activities, ensuring access to Council information, enforcing branding guidelines, liaising with the media and managing major events. Through these actions, the Communications and Events team can enhance Council's image and ensure Council accurately reflects its residents.
The Communications and Events Officer is required to assist with the coordination of Council's social media accounts, websites, printed materials and other communication streams; assist with organising and coordinating Council events; research and draft speeches, MC notes, briefings, corporate presentations, and other materials; and assist with the day to day running of the Communications and Events team.
About You The successful candidate will have:
A relevant tertiary qualification in Marketing or Communications /or equivalent work experience in marketing area. Proven experience using a wide range of communications tools including social media. Experience in digital marketing and knowledge of the basic principles and practices of advertising, marketing and events. Disciplined approach and attention to detail. High-level organisational skills, including the ability to problem-solve, manage multiple concurrent tasks and prioritise. High-level communication (both written and oral) and interpersonal skills and the ability to develop productive working relationships across different parts of the organisation. Proven experience writing copy and updating websites. Ability to research and prepare speech notes for a range of speakers and topics. Prior experience in organising and coordinating functions and events. Intermediate to advanced computer skills in Microsoft office applications. Demonstrated ability to work reliably, independently and in a team environment. Proven ability to handle confidential and sensitive issues and liaise effectively with internal and external customers and stakeholders, including members of the media and elected officials. Hold a current Driver's licence. Knowledge of, or experience in, local government.
