The Department of Transport and Main Roads is seeking a highly motivated Communication Advisor within the Northern District (Townsville). The Communications Advisor is accountable to the Senior Communications Advisor and is responsible for providing strategic communication guidance to engineers and other technical staff for the district's road infrastructure projects and initiatives.

This is an amazing opportunity for the successful applicant to perform a key role within the Customer and Stakeholder Management team for Northern District. You will provide specialist advice to the District Director, managers, and staff on media and issues management, risk assessment, and communication strategies. In this role, you will be writing communication and engagement plans, identifying and engaging with our project stakeholders, preparing high-quality correspondence and informative materials, and using your creative writing skills to develop informative notifications with the greatest reach through the department's social media platforms. This role is based in Townsville and is part of a dynamic team of communication and engagement professionals dedicated to delivering effective stakeholder and community engagement strategies.

Key responsibilities
Assist the Customer and Stakeholder management team leader in providing communication advice and support to the District Director, managers, and other district staff in the areas of media and issues management, risk assessment, community engagement, and communications strategies using appropriate communication tools. Research background information, provide strategic communication advice and support to engineers on Ministerial and media issues. Provide communication services to technical and professional staff in relation to executive correspondence using research, analysis, and problem-solving skills in responding to issues which are often sensitive and complex. Preparation of communication materials, including research and writing media enquiries and releases, ministerial briefings, newsletters, flyers, display materials, speech notes, and other communication material for the Ministers Office and senior management. Develop, plan and manage key communication activities such as displays, community events, road openings or commissioning, roadshows, media opportunities, and other events as determined by the district or region. Draft content and material for departmental publications and promotional literature - including internet, social media, and internal publications. Provide input into the development of the district's Communication and Engagement Plans and strategies. What we offer:
