We are seeking an experienced Commissioning Manager for Sunterra's Wollar Solar Farm in New South Wales.
Job Purpose The Commissioning Manager is responsible for overseeing the commissioning of solar or battery storage farms, ensuring that all systems and components are properly installed, tested, and operational in accordance with design specifications and regulatory standards. This role requires close coordination with construction teams, subcontractors, and regulatory bodies to ensure a smooth transition from construction to operation.
Key Responsibilities Commissioning Planning and Strategy Develop and implement a comprehensive commissioning plan, outlining the necessary steps, schedules, and resources required for successful project commissioning. Coordinate with engineering, construction, and operations teams to ensure readiness for commissioning activities. Define and document commissioning procedures and acceptance criteria in accordance with project requirements, standards, and regulations. Coordination and Management Lead and manage commissioning teams, including subcontractors and third-party vendors involved in testing and commissioning activities. Act as the main point of contact for all commissioning-related activities and liaise with construction managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure timely progress. Oversee commissioning schedules, ensuring alignment with project timelines, budgets, and milestone requirements. Testing and System Validation Supervise the testing of electrical systems, inverters, transformers, switchgear, battery storage systems, and other critical components. Ensure all equipment is tested according to commissioning protocols, and that performance meets design specifications and regulatory requirements. Manage the verification of system integration, operational readiness, and interconnection with the grid, ensuring seamless transition into commercial operations. Compliance and Safety Ensure that all commissioning activities are conducted in compliance with relevant safety standards, grid codes, and regulatory requirements. Conduct hazard identification and risk assessments, implementing measures to mitigate risks during the commissioning phase. Ensure adherence to all health, safety, and environmental protocols during commissioning activities. Documentation and Reporting Maintain detailed records of commissioning activities, including test results, non-conformances, and system performance data. Prepare and submit comprehensive commissioning reports, outlining system performance, test results, and any identified issues. Ensure proper documentation and handover of all commissioning data to the operations and maintenance teams, including operation manuals, test certificates, and as-built drawings. Problem Solving and Issue Resolution Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve technical issues encountered during the commissioning phase, working closely with engineering and construction teams. Coordinate corrective actions for any system deficiencies or non-compliance issues, ensuring prompt resolution to minimize delays. Manage post-commissioning activities such as performance monitoring and addressing any outstanding issues before final project handover. Stakeholder and Client Engagement Liaise with clients, consultants, and regulatory bodies to provide updates on commissioning progress, challenges, and outcomes. Work with grid operators and regulators to ensure all grid connection and compliance testing is successfully completed before commercial operation. Participate in client meetings to review commissioning progress and address any concerns or requirements. Project Handover Ensure a smooth and seamless handover of the project to the operations and maintenance team, including delivering final commissioning reports, testing certificates, and operational documentation. Oversee and manage any post-handover testing or performance validation required by clients or regulatory authorities. Conduct final inspections and validation to ensure the project is ready for full operational status. Key Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical field. 7+ years of experience in commissioning, preferably within the renewable energy sector (solar or battery storage). Proven track record of managing the commissioning of large-scale solar or battery storage projects. Strong knowledge of electrical systems, grid connection requirements, and testing procedures. Experience in leading multi-disciplinary teams and coordinating with contractors, clients, and regulatory bodies. Skills and Competencies In-depth understanding of commissioning processes and protocols for renewable energy projects. Excellent project management skills, with a focus on commissioning timelines, budgets, and resource allocation. Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to manage and resolve complex technical issues. Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to manage teams and engage with various stakeholders. Knowledge of Australian grid connection regulations and renewable energy standards. High attention to detail and a strong commitment to safety and quality assurance.
