The Message Queue (MQ) Engineering & OPS crew own the development, support, and maintenance requirements of the MQ platform, driving excellence, quality, and performance across multiple portfolios.
Your Role As an MQ Senior Platform Engineer, you will design, deploy, and manage IBM WebSphere MQ solutions, including installation, configuration, and ongoing maintenance. You will ensure the high availability, performance, and security of messaging services, supporting critical business applications across our organisation. Ultimately, you provide engineering support for the MQ platform, ensuring high-quality IT service delivery.
Key Responsibilities Oversee the daily administration and maintenance of MQ environments, including installation, upgrades, patch management, and identifying opportunities to optimise performance and capacity. Diagnose and resolve complex MQ faults, provide expert-level support, and ensure appropriate implementation and maintenance of MQ security policies, access controls, and encryption. Develop and deploy MQ solutions, automate tasks using scripts, and create and configure MQ Objects such as Queue Managers, Remote Queues, Local Queues, and Queue Aliases. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support messaging needs for various applications. Key Skills and Expertise Programming for configuration and cross-platform integration using languages such as JavaScript, TypeScript, C++, C#, Go, Python, or Java is a plus, and familiarity with .Net Framework, MVC, Web API, SQL Server, and modern JavaScript frameworks (Angular or React) is advantageous. Experience with CI/CD tools (i.e. Jenkins, Bitbucket, TeamCity) is also valuable.
Strong problem-solving skills, adaptability, learning agility, clear communication, and good organisational skills are necessary.

IBM MQ Administration, including installation, configuration, management, and tuning of IBM MQ. High Availability and Clustering, including setting up and managing multi-instance, clustered environments. Implementing IBM MQ Security features including MQAMS, IBM MQ IPT, and SSL/TSK. Complex fault diagnosis and timely resolution across MQ environments. IBM MQ monitoring toolsets (i.e. Splunk / Prometheus / Grafana / Observe) and task automation using Linux scripts (i.e. Bash/Python/Perl). Precision in system configuration and monitoring, with high attention to detail.
