Details: The ACT Justice and Community Safety Directorate (JACS) is seeking an experienced senior executive to undertake one of the most important positions in the Territory being the position of Commissioner, ACT Corrective Services (ACTCS). This position will be based in the Australian Capital Territory.
The Commissioner reports to the Deputy Director-General, Community Safety, and leads the ACTCS with the support of a highly capable team who together work to identify and implement sound correctional practice and provide strategic policy advice to all levels of government and relevant Ministers.
This role is required to work closely with a range of external and internal stakeholders (including other ACT Directorates and areas within JACS) to provide safe and secure custody for detainees with a strong focus on the delivery of rehabilitative, educational, and vocational programs, effectively managing unsentenced offenders and community-based corrections programs and providing advice and services to the ACT justice system.
The Commissioner, ACTCS, will provide strategic leadership that will inspire, shape and guide this committed team of corrective services staff through supporting the ongoing operations and future focus of corrective services functions.
The successful candidate may have a broad expertise across the justice system, not necessarily just corrective services and can demonstrate their ability to lead and manage a complex, dynamic and operationally demanding environment. They will have experience leading the delivery of improved outcomes and rehabilitative services for offenders and detainees within the justice system to enhance public safety.
In addition to expertise in the justice system, the personal attributes key to this role includes high ethical standards and integrity, the ability to create effective, engaging and lasting professional relationships and encourage innovation and collaboration. This role will lead with compassion, valuing diversity and respect for individuals, for departmental staff members and stakeholders as well as offenders and detainees.
Remuneration: The position attracts a remuneration package ranging from $368,020 - $382,772 depending on current superannuation arrangements of the successful applicant. This includes a cash component of $327,821.
Contract: The successful applicant will be engaged under a performance-based long term contract for a period of up to five years. Prospective applicants should be aware that long term engagements are tabled in the ACT Legislative Assembly.
