Norton White is a boutique law firm with a friendly team culture that is looking for a motivated, organised lawyer to join its Melbourne office. The firm is a recognised leader in transport law specialising in aviation, shipping and logistics. The firm acts for domestic and international airlines and logistics companies and is involved in many of the significant legal transactions in the transport sector in Australia and internationally.
Do not be discouraged by the specialised nature of the practice, prior transport law experience is not required and this is an opportunity to gain a practice specialisation that will help you stand out from the crowd.
About the role We're looking for a full-time commercial lawyer with at least 2 years PAE to join our Melbourne office.
In this role, you will work on a wide variety of commercial transactions for international and domestic airlines, helicopter operators, tourism operators, private jet owners, aviation maintenance organisations, flying schools and other companies in the aviation and logistics sectors. You would normally have to work for a large international law firm to get exposure to the quality of legal work for the transport sector.
The work will include:
Advising on the buying, selling, financing and leasing of commercial airline aircraft, private jets, helicopters, drones, ships and other transport equipment in Australia and in other jurisdictions worldwideDrafting charter and other air service agreements for use of aircraftActing on M&A transactions for businesses with a transport focusProviding corporate and commercial adviceNegotiating airport access and pricing agreementsGiving advice on general corporate matters such as shareholders' agreements, joint ventures, and the Corporations ActDrafting supply chain and service agreementsDrafting and negotiating a range of commercial agreementsYou may also get the opportunity to work on transport-related regulatory and litigation matters, if that is your interest.

Have 2 years or more commercial experience post admission with a well-regarded firm or in-houseHave excellent legal technical skills and exceptional attention to detailHave solid academicsBe highly motivated, organised and able to work with a level of autonomyBelieve in working hard and having fun while you do soAn interest in transport is essential, although prior experience in transport law is not required.
