THE POSITION
The College Nurse provides health care services to ELC-12 students and works closely on student related issues with Deputy Head of Primary and Deputy Head of Secondary (Students).
All staff are employed by the CEO & Executive Principal.
All staff need to be supportive of the values, Christian ethos and Ethical Statement of this Uniting Church day school for girls from ELC-12.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The duties and responsibilities of the College Nurse encompass: The Health Centre is open between 8.00am and 3.30pm Monday to Friday Term time only and provides a facility where students may rest for a short time if they are unable to attend class.Nurses provide support and school management of chronic conditions and illnesses such as diabetes, epilepsy and anaphylaxis and other medical conditions.Provide Emergency first aid assistance to all on Campus, student, staff and visitors.Administration of prescribed medications and other medications as per parent instruction.Record students entering and leaving the Health Centre.Record medication administered to staff and students.Contact parent/guardian if students need to go home because of illness/injury.Organise ambulance transport to hospital if necessary.Assist with administrative organisation of Queensland Government school Vaccination program programs at the College.Advise parents on school policy re return to school after contagious illness.Where necessary counsel students in good health habits.Assist in documentation for Additional Needs Students Management Plan and Emergency Procedures.Adhere to Drugs and Poisons Act and MBC Drug Management and Administration Policy.Continually update professional development.Communicate important health information, where appropriate, via the newsletter to the College community.Actively contribute to a safety citizenship culture upholding health and safety policies, procedures, hazard reporting and safe work practices.Management of Health Centre Ensure that Health Centre is left clean and tidy at the end of day.Maintain necessary supplies for First Aid Cabinet in Health Centre.Assist in ensuring First Aid supplies are available for use.Maintain all portable First Aid Kits for College.Organise laundering of bed linen in Centre.Organisation of all proformas and documentation for Health Centre.Complete Accident Reports when required.Checking and updating information related to Health Centre and contagious illnesses in all College Handbooks.Professional Development Where necessary address parent groups on health issues.Attend professional development activities pertinent to the role.In-service teaching and non-teaching staff on specific health care issues or use of equipment.Continual updating of medical handout information for staff and coaches.SKILLS AND ABILITIES The College Nurse needs to have the ability to: Read, analyse, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.Effectively present information and respond to questions from staff, students and parents.Define problems and assess the situation calmly, quickly and effectively.Assess students presenting for admission.Determine appropriate medical dosage where necessary.Work well with girls from ELC to Year 12.Work effectively and collaboratively in a team situation.Record data electronically.EDUCATION, CERTIFICATES and/or EXPERIENCE Bachelor Of Nursing or General Certificate in Nursing or Enrolled Nurse, with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and possession of an annual practicing certificate without medication restriction.Current AHPRA registration.Current/Previous experience in pediatrics is highly desirable.HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation
HLTAID010 Provide basic emergency life support
HLTAID011 Provide First AidWORK ENVIRONMENT The Health Centre is air-conditioned.Tasks include a range of activities from desk work to general tidy tasks including organisation of supplies in Health Centre, making of beds, etc.
This requires an active person who has the capacity to work on their feet for the majority of the day.APPLICATION
